Brian Dowling's official Website are reporting on their forum, via Variety, that Sky have the deal to televise live and highlight coverage of the Golden Globe Awards which take place on January 14 2008.

Brian will co-host the coverage of the Awards from the Beverley Hills red carpet along with Jenni Falconer. Claudia Winkleman will host the studio based coverage.

What a prestigious job for Brian! He will be in his element as he loves films. :D Not many details of the live and highlight shows are yet available, no doubt they will appear in the press after Xmas.

:)

Poor Brian, with the strikes this job may not now go ahead ${ . Let's hope he at least gets a nice holiday in LA from it.

It would be :(. The latest I've heard though is that the organisers are hoping a last minute deal will be negotiated to allow the show to go on.

Fantastic job for Brian! - top draw.
The writers' strike means the event will only be a press conference set-up to name the awards.
Still, to be considered is amazing.
Brian & Alison's career since BB is incredible. :D
Thank God, Brian, stepped aside & wants nothing to do with the likes of the hideous & cowardly Jade Goody - & her 'fame'.

Yes public image you are right, and Brian wasn't just considered, he actually got the job, a tremendous honour since apparently Sky paid a lot of money to be able to show the awards.

Just shows you don't have to be in the magazines and cheap tabloids every time you sneeze in order to get jobs and remain popular with the public.

The awards not going ahead must be very disappointing for Brian, I know he was really looking forward to the job and treading the red carpet in Hollywood.

ITV have also been giving Brian loads of prime time work just lately, lets hope either they or Sky soon give him something that takes away the edge from that deflated feeling he must have at the moment. If not that, well, Brian is still favourite with the bookies to take over from Dermot on BBLB.

I never thought of that!

Big Brother's Big Mouth only goes out 4 times a week so it's not really a problem to employ one new 'celebrity' presenter each & every week.

BBLB would be perfect for Brian; he knows the show inside out, he has plenty of experience presenting high-profile programmes. ()^

I'd love Brian to do BBLB. I think that Russell Brand showed last night that the people who have been *on the inside* to some extent on BB are the ones who make the most of entertaining the punters about the show itself.

I agree Jo, having inside knowledge himself will give Brian the edge if he does the job. He has bucket loads of live TV experience and is a dab hand at interviewing, it would seem like he's the ideal man for the job.

However, I'm not building my hopes up too much, BB is on for a long time and Brian might have other offers or he might just feel he doesn't want to get involved with the show again or that it's had its day. Brian doesn't seem to have the close relationship with C4 that he has with ITV1.

The reverse in actual fact- the viewing figures have gone down - the viewing figures may have been raised during Russell's appearance, but hype due to his ever-willing appearances in the tabloids never sustains. Every Russell Brand TV show since Kate Moss has flopped.
Yes, he may well have made millions since the Kate Moss hype, but every TV show he's got since has got bad ratings in the long-term.
Why? Because he's not as funny or clever as he thinks he is - his performance on Endemol's & John Noel's CBB5 was particulary bad.

I came home one saturday night & saw Russell Brand on the Jonathan Ross show.
Ross always wants to be associated with 'anybody' who is deemed 'successful' - no matter how good they are.
Ross(who doesn't really have a clue) asked Russell why he was bringing out an autobiography when he had only been 'famous' for six months.
The look on Russell's face was a picture - er, since Kate Moss & all the hype.

Just because Russell Brand(after the Kate Moss hype) became 'famous' thanks to John Noel Managenment promotion doesn't mean he's 'great' - yes, his groupies think so - but not intelligent society. :D

PIL, I am aware of your dislike for Russell Brand, and we'll just have to agree to disagree about his entertainment value.

I pay very little attention to media gossip about the man. I merely started to enjoy watching him on Eforum, and I have liked some of the interviews he has done.

I wouldn't go so far to say that he's *great* - but he did add value to a show that hasn't appealed in general to the masses, but which has appealed to several of the "thinking members" of this site. Perhaps you'd not admit me into your concept of "intelligent society", but I might not let you into mine either ;P

::lol:: Nice one, Vagabond - at least you replied to a comment I made! :D

My bug-bear has always been about 'celebrity' promotion - something the rather limited Russell Brand(according to all TV critics) has benefited from - the Kate Moss hype helped him to become a 'celebrity'.
That is my only point.

Anyway, as regards Brian, the Golden Globe's gig with Sky(whatever happens with the writers' strike) is massive for him, & to be honest, I don't think he needs Big Brother's Little Brother.
