Their 'fame' is definitely ridiculous & unwarranted - but a sign of the times...
Poor Jade Goody - she thought 'fame' was everything & she & those around her used her dreadful & ultimately terminal illness to project 'celebrity'.
I hope they're proud of themselves

Mind you, those mentioned are not alone - there are many in or have been in their position whether they be [ex]'reality tv stars', actors, presenters, musicians' etc. who need agents to promote themselves within the 'industry'.
There is an industry of 'celebrity' these days, probably always has been, but I prefer those people who forgo the money & at least try and make something of themselves within the arts or media.
