KERRY Katona stole her new boyfriend from a nurse who comforted her during her traumatic marriage break-up.
Former Atomic Kitten and I'm A Celeb winner Kerry, 24, who split with husband Brian in December, revealed last week she had found love with painter Dave Cunningham... a former boyfriend she first dated when she was just 17.
But she made no mention of Dave's long-term love Colette Cody, an intensive care nurse at a children's hospital who had welcomed her into her home as she faced up to depression and her collapsing marriage.
Colette - who had been dating Dave, 25, for more than four years - has been left heartbroken by his betrayal. A friend said: "Colette's a lovely girl. She really is an 'angel' - and now she's been left shattered.
"She feels hurt and betrayed. She and Dave had even talked about marriage. Now, in a matter of months, it's over. It's as if Kerry just had to click her fingers and Dave came running."
Colette, 25, and Dave lived in a semi-detached house in Kerry's home town of Warrington, Cheshire - and she was a regular visitor there after her marriage collapsed.
The friend said: "Kerry often popped in for a cuppa and a chat. Colette was very welcoming. She even cooked for the three of them.
"Colette's one of the kindest people you'd ever meet and regarded Kerry as one of her many friends. She could see how upset Kerry was about her marriage - and was pleased she had a shoulder to cry on.
"As far as she was concerned, it was years since Kerry and Dave had been an item. She thought her relationship was happy. She never imagined Kerry would become a love rival."
Dave - who was a guest at Brian and Kerry's wedding in January 2002 - even featured in one of Kerry's TV projects, With A Little Help From My Friends in which she helped to build a children's playground at a Liverpool Hospital.
The friend added: "Even then, Colette wasn't concerned. She was just pleased Kerry and Dave were involved in such a worthwhile project."
But Colette's attitude changed when she found out Dave and Kerry had secretly rekindled their romance. The friend said: "Colette was devastated. She couldn't believe Dave - or Kerry - could do this to her." Colette, who works at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, has fled the couple's house and returned to her mother's home. She refused to talk about the split, saying: "I've now got my own life to get on with."
Dave is now staying with his mum - but last weekend he jetted to Austria to meet Kerry, who is filming a new ITV1 show, My Fair Kerry. A friend said: "It's so hard for Colette. While she's coming to terms with the break-up, Dave's jet-setting around Europe with Kerry."
The pair have known each other since they were teenagers at Padgate High School in Warrington. The friend said: "Dave feels guilty about the situation and doesn't want to lose Colette as a friend... but she is unsure whether she ever wants to see him again." Kerry and former Westlife star Brian, 24, who have two children Molly, three, and Lilly-Sue, just 20 months, first split last September after almost three years marriage.
Kerry turned to another ex-love Dan Corsi - but soon dumped him. She and Brian seemed close to a reconciliation as they spent a happy evening together at a London hotel in early December.
But only a few days later she was admitted to the Priory clinic suffering from depression.
Then last month the Sunday Mirror revealed how Brian was romancing Neighbours actress turned pop star Delta Goodrem, 20, with pictures of them kissing in South Africa.
Kerry made an outpatient visit to the Priory before she went to Austria for her new TV role - which sees her passing herself off as upper-crust girl with a posh accent. She flew back home on Friday night
Speaking of her new romance last week, she said: "It's very early. We've known each other for a long time but only just started spending time together. I'm starting to feel my old self. I'm still delicate, but doing my best to face up to reality."
