Chocolate-covered ants and other insects have been popular items at the food hall at the Selfridges in London's west end following the latest series of reality show I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!
The Times reported that sales of insect foods have increased amid the popularity of the three-week show, which ended last week with EastEnders actor Joe Swash named as the winner.
And with more than ten million viewers tuning in to watch the antics in the jungle, London specialty food retailers are cashing in.
At the London Selfridges, for example, customers can purchase baked tarantula for £15.99.
"When insects are cooked their poison becomes non-toxic. We even do chocolate-covered scorpions," said Todd Dalton of food company Edible, which air-freights the tarantulas into the UK.
Streetsensation.co.uk has named the Oxford Street location of Selfridges as one of the sites of London's "most imaginative" window displays, particularly during the Christmas season.
