Clear your diaries and take your phones off the hook, I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here is back on our screens - and the stars of the show are more desperate than ever.

After weeks of backbiting, infighting, agents screaming 'more money', and whittled-down wishlists of names who have made more tabloids headlines than any other this year, a final ten have emerged.

Ingrid Tarrant turned down £150,000 to spend two weeks in the Australian jungle when she might have - ITV bosses had hoped - spill all on her marriage break-down. David Hasselhoff similarly refused £175,000 to speak of his.

Yet under-pressure ITV bosses still managed to come up with a pretty formidable list of misfits, oddballs, wannabees and has-beens. Perhaps most noteworthy among them are David Gest, the bizarre-looking and long-suffering former husband of Liza Minnelli, Lauren Booth, the outspoken sister-in-law of our own premier (most uncomfortably for Tony on the issue of invading Iraq), and every middle-aged man's dream date, former newsreader Jan Leeming.

Making up the 'totty' - as presenters Ant 'n' Dec will most probably refer to them - are former popstar Myleene Klass and Footballers' Wives actress Phina Oruche.

Male totty on the show might be assumed to include Jason Donovan, the former popstar, soapstar and West End star who also - quite significantly - dated Kylie Minogue who beat breast cancer this year.

Matt Willis from the boyband Busted will also provide a little eye-candy for female viewers, and he will no doubt - ITV bosses will again be hoping - speak about his precarious relationship with drink and recent spell at The Priory. Producers evidently rate Gest and Donovan the highest - they are both taking home £100,000 just to turn up.

Insiders say Gest has been told the stint on the show will 're-ignite his career' here in the UK. A guest appearance on a soap for him is also being negotiated.

Veteran comedienne and impersonator Faith Brown, flamboyant designer Scott Henshall and failed television presenter Toby Anstis make up the numbers.

But perhaps the most interesting - in the same way winner Carol Thatcher was last year - is Lauren Booth. Booth, a journalist and mother-of-two, claims not to know for sure whether Tony and Cherie knew that she was taking part in the series. She said: "I presume they know. And I am sure Tony will be saying 'eat maggots...eat maggots'."

Jason Donovan favourite for jungle reality show

Wed, 08 Nov 2006

Australian ex soap star Jason Donovan and the estranged husband of United States singer Liza Minnelli are among celebrities heading for the jungle in a British reality TV show, its makers said on Wednesday.

Donovan is 2-1 favourite to win ITV's 'I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here', while David Gest is the show's longest shot at 33-1, according to bookmakers Ladbrokes.

The show, which has spawned US, German, French and Dutch versions, follows stars as they try to survive in the Australian jungle while performing tasks such as eating live insects.

Viewers vote to evict celebrities as the show goes along and the winner is the one remaining at the end. The contestants raise money for charity.

Donovan, who starred opposite singer Kylie Minogue in the soap opera 'Neighbours' in the 1980s before launching a successful pop career, says he is considering a return to music when the show finishes.

"I'm definitely not saying I'm going to storm the charts or anything but this is an opportunity for me," he said.

Gest, meanwhile, insists he "can't wait" to spend up to three weeks with "no maid, no butler, no caviar".

The 10 participants on the show, which starts Monday, also include the half sister of Prime Minister Tony Blair's wife Cherie, journalist Lauren Booth, who has been a vocal opponent of the war in Iraq.

Well look no further people, for here are the crazy campers poised for action:

Heart FM DJ and TV presenter Toby Anstis

Journalist, ex-model and Tony Blair's sister in law Lauren Booth

Comedienne and impersonator Faith Brown

Actor and singer Jason Donovan

Music producer and famous ex-husband of Liza Minnelli, David Gest

Fashion designer Scott Henshall

Musician and TV presenter Myleene Klass

Ex newsreader Jan Leeming

Footballers Wives and The Bill actress Phina Oruche

Solo singer and former member of boyband Busted, Matt Willis

I've never been able to identify so many of the 'celebrities' before. I think that means that the average age is quite senior this year.

I remember Toby Anstis when he visited 'The Salon', and asked Georgina out on a date. Such innocent times....

Oh, I meant Georgina was innocent - the smiling carefree girl from Poplar, who used to bring in her granny's cakes to share with the staff.

She thought Toby was ancient! ::lol::

As you can tell, I had a soft spot for both the programme, and Georgina. :-?

I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here

Waveguide - Jason DonovanSinger Jason Donovan and Lauren Booth, the outspoken sister-in-law of Prime Minister Tony Blair, are taking part in this year's I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.

The series returns to ITV1 on November 13 at 21:00 with a sister programme on ITV2.

Also set to appear in the Australian rainforest are Liza Minnelli's former husband David Gest, former newsreader Jan Leeming, impersonator Faith Brown, former Busted singer Matt Willis, presenter Mylene Klass, actress Phina Oruche, designer Scott Henshall and radio DJ Toby Anstiss.

Jason Donovan said: “People think they know me – there is an age 25-and-over group who would probably be aware of me and feel they know me because at one point I was a household name but I would say I just want my own character to come across, my own identity – whatever that is.”

The series will once again be hosted by Ant and Dec.

The show's executive producer, Richard Cowles, promised there will be a few twists and turns along the way this year.

He said: “The celebrities have always felt that the one thing they had on their side in camp was each other – but this year there won’t necessarily be safety in numbers.

“With a few twists as well as some of the best Bushtucker trials seen yet, the celebrities certainly have a challenge ahead. We are really excited to see how things unfold.”

"There is one big, never before seen surprise for the celebrities and whether it's a welcome one remains to be seen," he said.

'MENTAL' TESTS FOR CELEBS

I'M a Celebrity hopefuls had to fill in a mental health questionnaire to asses their fitness for entering the jungle.

ITV sent them a Reality Applicant Psychological Profiler form asking how "useless" they feel.

The women who fly out to Australia for the show's return on Monday will be singer-presenter Myleene Klass, actress Phina Oruche, ex-newsreader Jan Leeming, comic Faith Brown and Cherie Blair's sister Lauren Booth.

The men will be Liza Minnelli's ex David Gest, former Busted star Matt Willis, Aussie heart-throb Jason Donovan, fashion designer Scott Henshall, and DJ Toby Anstis.

But they all had to answer 100 questions on their confidence and ability to cope under pressure.

One section asked how much they agreed with: "I think I'm no good" and "I feel useless at times".

A pal of one contestant said: "They were probably checking they'll have a few nutters in there rather than ensuring everyone is sane." Mirror

Secret camp in the bush!

I’M A CELEBRITY bosses are set to give viewers double vision by adding a SECOND jungle camp with two more stars.

The new twist is designed to create more rows and rivalry than ever before on the ITV show.

The 10 celebs who have already flown out to the Australian Bush for the show – including gorgeous singer Myleene Klass (pictured), 28, and former Neighbours star Jason Donovan, 38 – have no idea that a rival camp will be set up right under their noses.

Two more celebs will be put in the secret rainforest site, far enough away so they can’t see or hear what the rest get up to.

Bosses are now deciding which two stars they want to put in the second camp, before sending them off Down Under.

Among those being tipped to appear are model Paula Hamilton, 48, sports pundit and Daily Star columnist Rodney Marsh, 62, former Emmerdale star Malandra Burrows, 41, and punk godfather Malcolm McLaren, 60.

Another hot tip is former EastEnders star Dean Gaffney, 28, who already has form when it comes to reality telly, having appeared in ITV’s The Club.

A source said: “This is an amazing twist which will be a bit like this year’s Big Brother, where two houses were running but one didn’t know about the other.
“We haven’t decided how long this stunt will carry on, or who might cross over between camps. But it’s the biggest twist we’ve staged.

“Viewers will get used to seeing one set of stars in camp, then we’ll spring a surprise for them by launching a second camp.

“It’s going to be explosive and will cause some major arguments, which will make great TV.”

Fans have been expecting a major new gimmick in this year’s series because it is running for longer than before – almost three weeks.

Previous series have also provided surprises, with late-comers and new contestants put in the camp.

Show executive producer Richard Cowles had already teased that he had a big stunt up his sleeve to shock the new set of jungle stars.

He said: “There won’t necessarily be safety in numbers. There is one big, never-before-seen surprise for the stars. Whether it’s a welcome one remains to be seen.”

I’m A Celebrity starts on ITV1 at 9pm on Monday.
