| Post subject: | IS THIS THE MOST IRRITATING WOMAN IN HISTORY? |
Nov 27 2004 Daily Mirror Caroline Jones Woman'S Editor AS contests go, choosing history's most annoying woman was always going to be difficult...until Natalie Appleton came along. The former pop singer managed to shove the likes of Margaret Thatcher, Marie Antoinette, Nigella Lawson and even Linda Barker off the top of the shortlist with her appalling behaviour during I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here this week. Toppling those notorious characters takes some doing, but Natalie's whinging, bullying and bitching certainly did the trick. As a nation, we are a forgiving bunch and at first many of us probably put down the 31-year-old's behaviour to the fact she could have been homesick and missing her kids - especially when she started moaning and crying within 24 hours of hitting the Aussie jungle. But when she turned on poor Sophie Anderton in the vain hope of winning popularity with the rest of the group, she revealed her true colours. Her bullying was horrible to watch and she even had the gall to blame it on a loss of temper. Our initial sympathy towards Natalie had evaporated and it was no surprise viewers reached for the phone in their thousands and voted for her to complete the live bushtucker trial. Here was our chance to see the former All Saints star punished. And she even managed to cut short that simple pleasure when she ducked out of finishing the Leap of Faith challenge. All right, she did dive into a vat of slimy eels and another full of fly pupae before she stopped and declared: "I'm going to be sick. I can't do it." But we also wanted to see her suffer the ordeal of being dumped in the other tanks of putrid fish heads, ants and cockroaches. Even presenters Ant and Dec were chomping at the bit to shove her into one of the stinking pools. When she complained she wanted to throw up, the normally pleasant Ant replied: "Good." And as the first-aider came on to give her oxygen we prayed it was chloroform to keep her quiet. Margaret Thatcher must surely have feared the most irritating woman gong was hers. After all, she ditched free milk for schoolkids before going on to create mass unemployment and close down huge chunks of British industry. Queen Marie Antoinette was a close runner too. She is rumoured to have uttered the words "Let them eat cake", as thousands of peasants starved in 18th century France. As for Nigella Lawson, well, she's beautiful rich and talented, what could be more irritating than that? Apart from Natalie. THE MOAN CONTENDERs HARSH: Antoinette MISERY: Thatcher BEAUTY: Nigella |

I think any of the contestants are justified if they decide not to do part of a bush-tucker trial. If someone doesn't want to eat live creatures, and they refuse to do so, I'd respect them. But what I found most irritating about Natalie was the 'dithering' over whether she would or would not do the thing. She wanted her 15 minutes of glory, so she strung it all out as long as she could.. Tonight, though, I applauded her for saying 'no' straight away (almost each time). I found Sophie far more irritating tonight. |

I agree. I wouldn't do it. But the reason they are there: they are paid thousands of pounds! |

I wouldn't go as far, as to say, she's the most irritating woman, in history, but she is certainly irritating, and spoilt, and whiney, and immature, and .....well- the list of negatives, goes on and on, really. Time, Natalie, went back to her Mock- Tudor mansion, in deepest Essex, and got back to wedded bliss , with Liam Prodigy, and doing lunch, at the Ivy, with Kate Thornton. On all the given evidence, it's all she's fit for. |

IMO: JSP beats Natalie by a mile.
Natalie's behaviour was appalling and she is I expect for the first time in her life getting a slap for it. But who the **** does JSP think she is? It is obvious by her appalling behaviour and her overbearing personality that no one has ever put her in her place........
She has the meanest eyes and is so opinionated about everybody/everything except of course her own sour self. |

as JSP, herself, her friends and colleagues, have all said, she's one of those characters, you either love or hate- there's no middle ground. I, personally, find her outspoken, often brutal, honesty, refreshing. |

Who gave her the right to be outspoken, and brutal honesty to anyone.? |

I doubt the person she has torn into would agree with you Lyns. IMO, what would make great TV is the person who is on the end of the 'brutal honesty' from the likes of JSP, Natalie and other reality tv contestants we all know, is for them to have their opinion challenged by the person they picked on. Unfortunatly, no one has ever done that yet........ |
