ALEX IN COURT WIN OVER BEAST BESTIE ALEX Best scored a sensational divorce victory over husband George this week when she presented his lawyers with a devastating dossier of his violent abuse. When Best saw the damning accusations against him - she claimed he punched and battered her frequently during their nine-year marriage - he caved in to her financial demands. The couple spent EIGHT hours on Tuesday hammering out a private deal instead of going into court for the planned three-day hearing, after Alex put forward an explosive new statement about his violent behaviour. She had intended to divorce Best on the grounds of his adultery with single mum Gina Devivo, but because he claimed she earned more than him and was demanding maintenance, she threatened to sue on the grounds of "violent conduct" instead. In an abrupt U-turn he agreed to pay her £35,000 this year followed by £35,000 next year. He has also agreed she can keep the profits from her tell-all autobiography - Always Alex - due out next month. He had previously demanded a slice of the book's profits, saying the manuscript was cashing in on his celebrity. Former air hostess Alex, 33, also gets to keep the couple's £600,000 Surrey home and custody of the couple's dogs Red and Rua, while Best has "visiting rights". Best retains their flat in Chelsea, although he has been living at Forest Mere health spa in Hampshire for the last 18 months. In legal statements, Alex claimed that the former football genius: -REPEATEDLY attacked her, causing a broken wrist, broken jaw, cuts and a black eye -GAMBLED and drank constantly, changing from doting husband to drunkenbrute †CUT off her hair while she slept. Alex told lawyers that her husband's on-going battle with drink cast a a grim shadow over their marriage. She claimed: "He frequently beat me up and assaulted me. I put up with it because I thought it was the booze. "Money fell through his hands like water. From the beginning, I took control of the situation and organised George's financial affairs. "I have devoted over 10 years of my life to George. I have acted as nurse, chauffeur, cook, accountant, housekeeper, business consultant, companion, adviser, press relations office, maintenance person, gardener, property adviser and confidante." Twice-married Best - who has a 24-year-old son Calum by his first wife Angie - first met Alex at his favourite club, Tramp, in 1994. From the start their relationship was turbulent. Best sold a story to the newspapers detailing their first night of passion - while Alex declared she had not yet slept with him. She eventually forgave him his "mischievous" behaviour. The couple planned to get married but on their wedding day neither turned up after Best went on a two-week bender. They were married a few months later in 1995. In the legal notes Alex admitted her marriage was in real turmoil after just two years. On her 25th birthday in 1997 she said she witnessed her husband's darker side for the first time. Best left their Chelsea flat early that morning without saying goodbye or wishing her "Happy Birthday". He went straight to his local pub where he spent the day boozing. Alex was devastated. When he finally staggered home and she confronted him she says that in a drunken stupor he lunged at her throat as if he was about to throttle her, hitting her in the face. Alex said: "I was left reeling. At first I was in shock but then I fought back. When I saw myself in the mirror I had a black eye, cuts and bruises. I went to bed and couldn't stop crying. I've never felt so low in my life." The next day she fled to her parents' house in nearby Cheam, Surrey, where her husband rang begging for her forgiveness. Although the I'm A Celebrity star logged the incident with the police, she decided to give her marriage another chance. But according to Alex, Best's behaviour got worse. She claimed he often left her bruised and cut following violent arguments. In legal papers she says that verbal spats would almost always end up with pushing, shoving and her hair being pulled. On occasions she said Best's behaviour took an even more bizarre and frightening twist. One morning she said she woke to find he had cut off her blonde hair with a knife while she slept. "It was very traumatic," she said. Another time Alex claimed Best scrawled all over her body with a permanent marker pen, again as she slept. The marriage careered further out of control and in the summer of 1998, she was left with a broken wrist after she said Best shoved her to the floor. In March 2000 Alex found Best rolling in agony on the bed, and called an ambulance. His drinking had caused liver disease which eventually led to a liver transplant. Throughout his health problems Alex was at his side, nursing him back to health. "I really believe that if I hadn't been there, George would not have survived," she said. Best stayed clear of alcohol for the next 12 months but Alex revealed that he began drinking again in June 2003. In the November Alex said she went home one day to find him in a drunken state. "The kitchen had been trashed. "The next day I found a brick had been thrown by him through the back window of my car and he had kicked the panelling in. It cost about £5,000 to repair." By Christmas the situation had deteriorated past the point of repair, and they announced their split after another violent bust-up in which Alex said she was "punched and kicked by a raging, booze-addled Best". In the past Alex has denied Best hit her and has always defended him after bust-ups. She also confessed she has lashed out at him during arguments. Best himself has said: "I don't hit women - only men." Sundaymirrir |

| Post subject: | George Best divorce settlement |
29 March 2005 Pink-Football Legndary soccer ace George Best has finally been divorced by Celeb Get Me Out Of Here star, Alex Best. Sadly he loses custody of their two pet red setters. According to The Mail, Best claims Alex has admitted an affair with Simply Red star, Mick Hucknell, and that he only agreed to let her petition for the divorce after she threatened to commit suicide. She, meanwhile, says George attacked her in drunken rages and was having an affair with another woman. Alex comes out of it not only with the dogs but their lovely Surrey home and £80,000 cash while he only gets to keep his modest Chelsea flat. And she's apparently dating mega-rich Christal Palace boss Simon Jordan. And planning a kiss and tell autobiography that the Mail tells us will be 'explosive..sure to leave George reeling' (and bring in an extra bob or two?) Don't this couple have any idea the effect all this fighting imay be having on poor Red and Rula (the two dogs)? |
