Vic Reeves on drink drive charge

Vic Reeves was charged with drink driving
Comedian Vic Reeves has been arrested and charged following a motoring incident near his rural home.

The 46-year-old, whose real name is Jim Moir, was charged with drink driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

The incident, reportedly involving a collision between vehicles, occurred just after 1500 BST on Saturday, on a road in Maidstone, Kent.

The star of Shooting Stars and The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer is now waiting for a court hearing date.

Reeves has also starred in TV motor insurance commercials and appeared in I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

It is reported that his vintage Jaguar was in collision with another car, careered up a bank and crashed into a fence.

A Kent Police spokesperson said: ""We can confirm that just after 3pm on Saturday a James Moir, born 1959, was charged with driving a vehicle with excess alcohol and failing to stop at the scene of an accident."

Vic is the new Bestie

VIC Reeves is plunging into the same booze hell as fallen soccer idol George Best — often sinking up to FOUR BOTTLES of wine a day, it was claimed last night.

And pals say his drinking sessions and wild mood swings are ripping his two-year marriage apart.

He loses Churchill ads

SHAMED Reeves was last night dropped from ads for car insurance giant Churchill.

The firm is axing a £1million campaign featuring Vic’s voiceovers for the bulldog Churchill, left. Spokesman Greg Dawson said: “We are extremely concerned to hear of recent events involving Vic Reeves. We take road safety issues very seriously.

“We will be withdrawing our TV advert featuring Vic’s voice while we fully review the situation.”

Insiders believe there is no way back for Reeves, who was in the ads for eight years. One said: “How could we possibly work with him again?”

"Nancy fury,” screams the Daily Star as, “B-test Vic ditched”.

In an attempt to translate tabloid-ese, what the Beelzebub is going on?

Nancy is, of course, Nancy Sorrell, the tenor-voiced ‘model’ girlfriend of Vic Reeves. And ‘B-test’ refers to his breath test which he allegedly failed after a car shunt while over the alcohol limit.

So, has she dumped the comic?

Er, no. She’s at her “wit’s end,” but the once-funny man has allegedly been given the heave-ho from a series of car ads he appears in for Churchill car insurance.

Or as the Star helpfully informs us: “Churchill? He’s that TV pooch.”

You know the one, nodding dog says, “ooh, no, no, no.”

The Star reckon his voiceover loss amounts to a million quid but more worryingly, a “pal” squealed to the paper that his Good Friday drinking session means “he is turning into George Best”.

Miss World was not available for comment.

Telly Vic shot pet chook

SHAMED comic Vic Reeves was slammed by animal welfare campaigners last night for shooting a pet chicken ten times with a rifle.

The star, 46, fired off the weapon after wife Nancy Sorrell told him the bird was injured.

Telly funnyman Reeves - real name Jim Moir - killed the fluffy white chook at the couple’s £1.2million mansion in Grafty Green, Kent.

Nancy said of the pet, named Preachy: “We couldn’t bring ourselves to break his neck so Jim got him with a rifle.

“He didn’t die straight away. Jim had to shoot him ten times. It was awful.”

Ex-lapdancer Nancy, 30, said the bird had developed a limp and its head was “hanging off”.

But animal groups warned Reeves may have breached cruelty laws.

RSPCA spokeswoman Becky Hawkes said: “A competent marksman would have dispatched a chicken in one shot.

“It appears Vic and Nancy did not seek veterinary treatment.”

The ex-lapdancer, 30, is believed to have quit the couple’s £1.2million mansion in Grafty Green, Kent, to stay with her sister Kelly in London.

The Sun revealed how Reeves, 46 — real name Jim Moir — was charged with drink-driving after an all-day booze bender.

In a statement yesterday Nancy said: “Jim and I are as much in love now as we have ever been.”

Post subject:  Nancy hits back at Vic split rumours

10.02PM, Sun Apr 3 2005 :ITV

Vic Reeves' wife and I'm A Celebrity co-star Nancy Sorrell has hit back at rumours of their marriage going sour and insisted they are now more in love than ever.

Gossip to the contrary started circulating after Vic's recent arrest for drink-driving.

The Shooting Stars funnyman crashed his £20,000 vintage Jaguar into a neighbour's vehicle while popping down the local pub for a packet of cigarettes.

This in turn has led to the comic being dropped from TV adverts for car insurance.

Nancy also rubbished talk of Vic being an alcoholic or rumours that she had demanded he book himself into celebrity rehab clinic The Priory.

The couple are now said to be trying to start a family together after being married for the past two years.

They originally got together four years ago on the set of a TV show.

Post subject:  VIC AND BAN

Apr 8 2005 .Mirror

COMEDIAN Vic Reeves was ordered to stay off the road yesterday after admitting driving while more than three times the alcohol limit.

Magistrates imposed an immediate fortnight’s ban until he is sentenced on April 21. A lengthy spell away from the wheel is then certain to follow.

Reeves – a TV favourite with his Vic and Bob double act alongside Bob Mortimer – has also been dropped as the voice of the Churchill car insurance “bulldog” adverts.

He had been arrested on Good Friday and spent the night in cells following an incident involving a neighbour’s car, after which he allegedly fled the scene.

Yesterday Reeves, 46, was also due to face a charge of failing to stop after an accident – but it was adjourned because of a clerical error.

He faced Maidstone magistrates in Kent with wife Nancy Sorrell, an underwear model, at his side.

Reeves, appearing under his real name James Moir, had 117mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood in his system at the time of his arrest. The legal limit is 35mg.

He was driving a £20,000 vintage Jaguar in the Kent village of Boughton Malherbe. Michelle Tong, 23, says Reeves slammed into her as she was sitting in her small Peugeot. She claims he then drove off to his £1.2million home down the road.

Reeves was driven to court by wife Nancy, who appeared with him in I’m a Celebrity.

She smiled for photographers, but the couple seemed nervous as they waited for the case.

Nancy, in a tight black suit, seamed stockings and high heels, was in the public gallery clasping her hands and biting her nails as her husband came before the bench.

Reeves confirmed his name, address and date of birth, then made a plea of guilty to the drink-driving charge.

Imposing the ban until April 21, chief magistrate Alan Phipps warned against any breach, saying: “It is a very serious offence for which you can be sent to prison.” Reeves was granted unconditional bail. Declining to comment, he posed for pictures with his wife. The couple then shared a kiss.

Churchill insurance said later: “We have decided not to use Vic in our future advertising campaign. We take road safety issues extremely seriously, so feel this can be our only course.

“A new commercial is now running using a professional voiceover provider.”

Drive-ban Vic drunk at show Image

BOOZE shame comic Vic Reeves was ‘staggering drunk' as he watched wife Nancy Sorrell on Celebrity Stars In Their Eyes this week.
Just days before he was in court admitting a drink-drive charge, the ‘clearly hammered' comic was shouting obscenities at the ITV1 recording.

Shocked members of the audience heard him declare Nancy, 30, would ‘f****** win' the show as Karen Carpenter.

"He was absolutely staggering drunk, swaying and slurring his words. He was telling everyone Nancy would f****** win. His language was peppered with obscenities," said an insider.

Vic, 46, stopped swearing when the warm-up man invited him on stage. But the insider added: "It was obvious he was drunk. Everyone was cringing."

On Thursday, Reeves was given an interim ban after admitting he was almost three times over the limit when he crashed into a parked car on March 25.

Nancy was rumoured to have moved out of their Kent mansion after the crunch. But they put on a show of unity on Monday and Tuesday, when they were staying in Manchester during filming of Stars In Their Eyes.

The insider revealed: "They seemed really happy together."

Reeves admits leaving crash scene

Comedian Vic Reeves was banned from driving for 32 months today after he admitted crashing his vintage Jaguar while drunk and then leaving the scene.

The 46-year-old was more than three times the legal alcohol limit when he crashed into a parked car near his home in Boughton Malherbe, Kent, on March 25.

Reeves - real name Jim Moir - did not even notice he had hit the car, in which one of his neighbours was sitting, and careered up a bank and into a fence before driving on to his home.

He pleaded guilty at Maidstone Magistrates' Court today to leaving the scene of the collision, having already admitted drink-driving at a hearing earlier this month.

Sentencing the comedian, chairwoman of the bench Lizzie Hughes said he could have faced a jail term, but would receive a lower punishment because of his early guilty pleas, contrition, and lack of previous offences.

She sentenced Reeves to a total of 100 hours community punishment order for both counts, and disqualified him from driving for 32 months.

The driving ban will be reduced to two years if he pays £200 to complete a drink-driving rehabilitation course.
