Post subject:  Joe: Why I'm no celeb

Quote:
MADCAP comic Joe Pasquale may have notched up almost 20 years in showbiz but the squeaky-voiced joker says he still can’t get his head around being famous.

Despite being crowned King Of The Jungle in hit ITV1 reality show I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, funnyman Joe says he still gets starstruck by "proper stars".

The comic, 44, told us: “Fame is a funny business. I went on Ant and Dec’s show a week or so ago and Will Smith was on it. He's a real celebrity!

“It was so funny because he had about 25 different ‘people’ with him and a couple of the producers asked whether he would mind waving at the end of the show.

“But Will’s ‘people’ were like: 'No, Mr Smith does not and will not wave'.

“It’s stupid because I’m sure Will’s not like that at all, he seems like a great guy.”

Joe – famed for his irritating rendition of I Know A Song That Will Get On Your Nerves – says his stint in the jungle was a reality check for many of his fellow contestants.

He said: “When you’re in the Australian outback, it doesn’t matter ‘who’ you are, you just have to get on with it.

“It’s like the day I had to check Fran’s bum for leeches, it’s not something you would do in an ordinary situation!

“The whole bum and leech thing was quite funny because the final edit didn’t explain why I was examining Fran’s behind, when in fact the doctor told us we had to, honest!”

Joe’s unlikely friendship with former butler Paul Burrell was well-documented, the two became good mates almost as soon as they entered the jungle.

He said: “I’ve got no idea why the two of us got on so well. I used to work down Smithfield’s Meat Market carrying around dead cows, he used to work at Buckingham Palace carrying around the Queen’s slippers.

“But when it comes down to it, Paul is hilarious. He’s a natural comic but I don’t think there’s any chance of us teaming up as a double act."

He adds: "He loves singing though, so don’t rule out an album!"

Dad of five Joe, from Grays, Essex, first shot to fame in the late 80s when he entered TV talent show New Faces and quickly became a familiar face on the UK comedy circuit.

His latest DVD - a recording of the ITV1 An Audience With Joe Pasquale – sees the squeaky one at his squeaky best.

The show sees Joe entertaining his jungle pals and a crowd of celebrities including Jodie Marsh, Frank Bruno, Delta Goodrem and The Muppets star Gonzo!
