Wright, 41, became a TV and radio presenter and star of the BBC quiz show 'They Think it's all Over', after quitting football.
Producers at ITV think Wright will be perfect for the show because he is well known and outgoing.
A show source said: "We're desperate to get Wrighty on board. He is very loud and outspoken. Views will love him but they'll love to punish him with those nasty bush tucker trials."
Show chiefs have scrapped plans to film the show in Queensland and will be using the same camp, as used for previous series, in New South Wales.
