| Post subject: | I'm a celebrity, get Becky in here |
EDP24 SARAH HARDY 01 November 2005 07:29 Norfolk weathergirl Becky Mantin is leaving the pouring rain to jet off to the Aussie sun to report on the next series of I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here. Becky, 24, will present daily live bulletins for GMTV's This Morning for the two weeks of the hit show later this month. "My pieces will go out at noon each day," she said. Becky, a former weathergirl at Anglia TV, flies out to Australia on November 14 and returns on December 10. "We start work on November 18 and I'll be broadcasting at 9pm Australian time, so at least I don't have to get up in the middle of the night or anything!" She knows she has to complete one or two of the infamous bush tucker trials, which can range from eating revolting offerings to attempting a death-denying stunt. "I'm fairly robust, and I do love my food so I don't think I'll have any trouble eating slugs or anything. But I have said that I am claustrophobic so I don't want to be buried alive or anything like that," she said. It will be the first time she has been to Australia and she is worried about the humidity and the mosquitoes. "They've told me that it can be very, very hot, and I'm based in a sort of makeshift camp with all the other journalists, so it should be a good atmosphere," she said. Becky, now one of ITV's leading weather presenters, remains as much in the dark as the rest of us as to who the contestants might be. "I've heard everyone mentioned from Jenny Frost to Mr T to Barry Fry to Cannon and Ball. I think they do it to keep us all guessing." The former Norwich High School for Girls student, who also worked at our sister publication, the EDP Norfolk magazine, still lives in Norfolk where her boyfriend, Anglia sports commentator Dan O'Hagan, is based. Always a home girl, Becky says she will miss her family and friends and her dogs but adds that she will be taking plenty of photos with her. And as for all her Christmas shopping, Becky reckons: "Every-one will be having a nice big bottle of perfume from the duty free airport shops - even my dad!" |
