November 24 2005 Fifth series of the new show has been criticised for its choice of less well known celebrities I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here is back. Now call me a cynic but I don't believe that there was much of a clamour for its return, but here we are. One of the biggest criticisms of the show is that the celebrities aren't really all that famous. We would all like to see a show featuring Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and Nicole Kidman stuck in the jungle for a month. Let's face it; nobody is going to spend a couple of weeks in the jungle to boost their career unless said career is in the doldrums. To be fair the production team has really excelled themselves this year with the biggest bunch of non-entities to date. There's Blue reject Anthony Costa, who seems to be more famous for going out with Emmerdale's Kelly; David Dickinson, who really looks like an antique; Jenny Frost, who had the particular honour of being the least talented member of Atomic Kitten - Kerry Katona not withstanding; Jimmy Osmond, who makes brother Donnie look positively likeable. And they are the more famous of the bunch. The rest of the litter is made up from Sheree Murphy, who had the honour of being marginally less annoying than her husband Harry Kewell. There's Carol Thatcher, whose mother is as famous as she is unpopular around these parts. She seems so wacky that she might actually be likeable. Elaine Lordan from EastEnders has already collapsed twice, much to the amusement of the tabloid press who take great pleasure in reminding readers about her problems with alcohol. Jilly Goolden is there, by the looks of it, to simply make up the numbers. Another former EastEnder is Sid Owen who found a modicum of fame as Ricky Butcher in the hit show. Let's hope his reality television career fares better than his ill-fated music career. Good Thing Going indeed. Now as a red-blooded male I have to admit that I was looking forward to the appearance of Kimberley Davies, or as she is more commonly known Annalise from Neighbours. I don't think I am alone in saying that many a teenage afternoon was spent drooling over her before lunch ended and we had to return to school. Remember when they say you should never meet your heroes. The same applies here. In all fairness she hasn't aged badly at all. The scary thing is that she hasn't aged at all. If I didn't know better I would say somebody has been on the Botox. It doesn't really matter what we say about the show, ITV have splashed enough cash on it and are showing it enough times that we can't avoid it. All we can do is endure. I'm a viewer, get me the remote. DailyIreland |
