| Post subject: | LATEST: BRAVE KIMBERLEY QUITS |
29 November 2005 Soap star in copter horror By Nicola Methven And Frank Thorne In Murwillumbah BRAVE Aussie soap star Kimberely Davies has dramatically QUIT the I'm A Celebrity jungle only hours after returning to camp following her disatrous helicopter stunt. Millions of viewers watched open-mouthed last night as Kimberley Davies' Bushtucker trial went horribly wrong. The ex-Neighbours actress leapt from a helicopter, hit the water awkwardly and had to be airlifted to hospital. But after a night in hospital, the plucky star returned to be with her jungle mates. However, the show's producers were stunned today when Kimberley suddenly decided she'd had enough and announced: I'm A Celebrity...And I'm Getting Out Of Here. Yetserday, as she lay in bed nursing a cracked rib, show bosses insisted the Bushtucker Trial accident was her own fault. A statement from Granada Television said: "Kimberley had been given a full safety briefing beforehand when she was told that she must keep her arms down at her sides and her legs straight when entering the water. oh FFS!! Never mind safety briefings!! She's a novice at this, and was doing it for the cameras!! They shouldn't have stunts that you can injure yourself doing, if they have to have important safety rules like that. I'm sure it was an involuntary action when she went to cover her mouth. |

mirror TERROR PLUNGE AUSSIE QUITS 6HRS AFTER RETURN By Nicola Methven, Tv Editor And Frank Thorne KIMBERLEY Davies lasted just six hours in the jungle yesterday before walking out in agony following her Bushtucker Trial accident. Millions of viewers had seen the ex-Neighbours actress break a rib as she plunged 30ft into the water from a helicopter as she tried to win meals for the camp. The Aussie star, 32, was flown to hospital where she stayed overnight. But yesterday she bravely decided to return, telling the Daily Mirror: "I want to show people I can tough it out and I'm not a quitter. "Of course I can go on to become Queen of the Jungle. I've broken my rib. It hurts a bit but tell everyone I'm OK and thanks for their concern."" However, a few hours later she quit because of the pain. Kimberley - who injured herself by holding her nose as she hit the water in the Hell-O-Drop Bushtucker Trial - was frustrated at her early departure. She moaned:"It's so annoying - I was having fun." The actress had been discharged from hospital yesterday morning after doctors declared her fit enough to return to the camp. She arrived back at lunchtime but later was still in pain. In a statement TV bosses said: "She was planning to spend another night in camp but decided to leave at 6.20pm. "This was a decision which we entirely understood and fully supported. We wish Kimberley well." Earlier, when the others heard about her planned return, they speculated that her plucky behaviour would win her the show. Carol said: "The public will see 'wow she's pretty' and they'd have seen the accident and she'll win." But later they felt sorry for her when she told them she was in agony and was quitting. "You're gonna be missed in this camp," said ex-Atomic Kitten singer Jenny. And she joked: "I've heard of a way to get out of things." Antiques expert David told her: "You're a terrific girl Kim and a tough girl." Sheree added: "We are going to miss you so much. The camp just won't be the same." With a kiss for everyone, Kimberley left to applause. As she was walked to the bridge by Jenny and Sheree, the girls made jokes from their favourite Oz TV comedy Kath and Kim as they said goodbye. The pair yelled: "We love you Kimmy," as she walked over the bridge. The girls returned to camp, where they immediately cut up Kimberley's leftover brownie and shared it round. ITV said Kimberley will not be replaced. One eviction night will be cancelled to ensure three celebrities remain for the show finale. |

COPTER HORROR KIMBERLEY: TELL EVERYONE I'M OK CROCKED Kimberley Davies yesterday insisted she was on the mend after her helicopter jump accident. The former Neighbours beauty, 32 - who broke a rib in the 30ft leap - said: "According to the papers I'm dying. But I'm fine. "I'm sore and it hurts a bit, but tell everyone I'm OK and thanks for their concern." The mum of two added: "I've been having physio, resting and seeing my kids. "I'm trying to get better as soon as possible. But it's annoying and I'm impatient. I like to be doing stuff." She was hurt during a Bushtucker Trial in which she and Sheree Murphy jumped on to targets on the water. The star said: "I remember landing and thinking, 'This isn't good'. Then I don't really remember anything until I saw Sheree. Then I was in the helicopter." After a day in hospital she bravely went back on the show but lasted six hours before the pain made her quit on Tuesday. She added: "I wanted to see if I could do it. But I underestimated how painful it was. "Being looked after in hospital is one thing, going into the jungle is another. "Once I sat down, they all said to me I was crazy. I started to think that maybe they were right." Show chiefs insist she was to blame for the injury as she ignored instructions to keep her arms and legs straight. Mirror |
