A rustling sound wakes me with a start. It's dawn on Day Two of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! and one of the production crew is standing next to my bunk, fiddling with my microphone.
'Lauren's done, moving on to Jason,' he says into a walkie-talkie, while studiously ignoring my croaky 'good morning'.
Every dawn is the same at base camp. Men sneak about changing the batteries on our mikes, then melt back into the undergrowth before Jan Leeming can even begin making the fire.
As far as the viewers are concerned, we are in the jungle on our own. But for us, it's hard to escape the knowledge that you are being watched at all times.
Take the rocks around the edge of the encampment. It was David Gest who first spotted that they seemed to be hollow and made of papier mache. They occasionally cough, too. And yawn distractedly just when you think you're reaching the climax of a long anecdote. The camp may be festooned with hidden microphones and technical wizardry, but cameramen are still needed for some shots - and they need somewhere to hide.
