Chat Show For David Gest

Music mogul David Gest has been offered his own TV show on ITV.

Gest, who was a surprise hit in reality series I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! last month, will front a chat show, which he has admitted starts "very soon".

An ITV spokesman has confirmed they are in discussions with music producer Gest - estranged husband of Liza Minnelli.

The spokesperson says, "We are talking to David." waveguide

David Gest gets his own show

I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! star David Gest has landed his own TV show.

The fly-on-the-wall ITV1 series will follow him as he goes about his day-to-day life.

It will be a behind-the-scenes peek into the weird world of the music producer who counts Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston among his close friends.

And it will give viewers the chance to find out if his fabled housemaid Vaginica really does exist.

“This is just the kind of show I wanted to do. It’s going to be an absolute blast.

“I really can’t wait for everyone to meet Vaginica,” said Gest, 53.

The David Gest Show will be made by the same team behind I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

The former husband of Liza Minnelli did not win the reality series but emerged as its biggest star.

He said: “I have been astounded by the incredible reaction and the thousands upon thousands of letters I have received since leaving the jungle.

“It has been mind-boggling and I want to thank the public for their overwhelming support.”

The show will be screened later this year.

Layla Smith, ITV1’s controller of alternative programmes, said: “He was the star of I’m A Celebrity – an absolute revelation and completely captivating.

“We can’t wait to go behind the scenes with the man himself – the nation want to see it and we are delighted he has chosen ITV for what is sure to be a fascinating series.” breakingnews

GEST FLY ON WALL SHOW
EXCLUSIVE - By Mark Jefferies 13/04/2007

ODDBALL David Gest invites viewers to share his world in a fly-on-the-wall documentary next week.

The 53-year-old Grease is the Word judge has been followed by TV cameras since December.

The Mirror can reveal his quirks include brushing his teeth dozens of times each day.

He also demands cameramen take off their shoes while filming him.

And he dates a singer half his age after hiring her to sing at a concert.

He says: "I'm looking for somebody who knows how to bounce on the bed."

But getting Gest ready for a night out is not easy, because he is very fussy about his thinning hair.

A source hinted this was not his only fixation, saying: "Any stylist must know which shade of eye-shadow he prefers, and it's not applied to his eyes."

The episode ends with Gest taking his 25-year-old date to a film premiere.

This Is David Gest starts on ITV a week on Sunday for six episodes. Mirror

This Is David Gest
- ITV1 London, Sunday 22 April 10:15pm - 11:00pm

"I'm not really a diva!" says David Gest, one-time husband of Liza Minnelli and, since I'm a Celebrity . . . Get Me Out of Here!, the biggest star to emerge from almost all the current crop of reality/ talent shows on British TV. Who's he kidding? In nearly every scene in the taster tape of this fly-on-the-poshhotel- wall film about Gest's "normal, day-to-day" life, he throws a tantrum about some minor infringement. In between outbursts, Gest ricochets around the place constantly being "crazy" and "outrageous", which could get a bit wearing, except there's something horribly addictive about watching his antics. And, of course, there's always the possibility that we might find out the truth about his maid's implausible name and his friendship with Michael Jackson.

This Is David Gest

ITV1, Sunday 29 April 10:15pm - 11:00pm

To celebrate his recent success in the UK, David Gest organises a star-studded party in Hollywood and causes chaos. He goes missing, worries about being ugly, and then goes to Michael Jackson's old house and breaks in. But his eccentric demands leave bodyguards Big Willy and Imad trying to cope as best they can.

AN UNWANTED PARTY GEST
Kevin O'Sullivan
"I CAN'T bear to look at myself on the TV," said the world's ugliest man. Who can?

Plumbing new depths of pointlessness, ITV's Sadly, This Is David Gest swiftly established itself as the worst programme of the year. OK, I made up the "Sadly" bit.

But how many times can a guy say "Holy Focaccia" before it ceases to be funny? Once.

Minutes into the first instalment of our hero's staged fly-on-the-wall-to-wall-boredom series, the message was clear: Come in Mr Gest... your time is up! Setting up home at London's Grosvenor Hotel, David was "determined to cash in on his UK fame while he's still hot property".

In another wild over-estimation of his popularity, the I'm A Celebrity weirdo declared: "Why not stay where you're loved?" Where would that be?

Toe-curling tedium followed with a succession of excruciatingly contrived set pieces: Mockney Dave hitting the streets in the misguided belief that Londoners just love dumb Yanks doing irritatingly bad impressions of them.

In-demand Dave in a Pearly King suit pretending he's landed a lucrative ad campaign - when all he's doing is publicity pictures to promote his own lousy show.

Friend of the stars Dave meeting Beyonce. Briefly.

Dave's jungle chum Matt Willis hosting the "sell-out" David Gest Soul Spectacular in a half-empty church hall. God help us!

To see how this type of show should be done, tune into ITV2's superior Katie and Peter: The Next Chapter. Happy to turn their bizarre lives into a TV soap, Jordan and Peter Andre just act naturally. The result is a compelling explosion of fabulously bad taste and disgusting behaviour.

Gest tries desperately to play the eccentric. But he's a self-conscious, middleclass boy from the US suburbs. And it shows. Sundaymirror
