Janet Street-Porter Arrested

Janet Street-Porter has been arrested over claims that she racially abused a neighbour.

Street-Porter went to a north London police station by appointment yesterday and was questioned before being bailed.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: "On January 16, a 59-year-old woman attended a north London police station by appointment and was arrested in connection with an alleged racially-aggravated public order offence.

"She was later bailed to a date in February pending inquiries."

In 2003 she was criticised by Plaid Cymru after attacking Welsh people as "unfriendly" and saying they made her feel like an "alien" during her childhood holidays in north Wales. waveguide

Janet Street-Porter Apologises

Janet Street-Porter has apologised for an outburst against a neighbour, saying she was distressed after returning from her sister's funeral.

Broadcaster Janet Street-Porter has apologised "unreservedly" for swearing at her neighbour.

But Street-Porter, who was arrested over the incident, maintained she did not make a racist remark to Julie Mbemba.

"In the interests of good neighbourliness I want to apologise unreservedly to Ms Julie Mbemba for swearing at her and causing her distress on November 29 when I returned home from attending my sister's funeral," she said.

"I was unloading my car with the car boot and my front door open, in tears, totally distraught as I had just buried my darling sister after a terrible illness which had been widely reported in the press and which has had a devastating effect on me.

"That does not excuse losing my temper and swearing at Mrs Mbemba.

"I totally refute however any allegation that I made a racist remark to her on that or on any other occasion.

"As I have already said, my track record is such that it is obvious I abhor racism in any form."

Street-Porter was bailed on Tuesday for the incedent. waveguide

Police will take no further action against broadcaster Janet Street-Porter over claims she racially abused a neighbour.

The former I'm A Celebrity star and newspaper editor was told by the Metropolitan Police that its inquiries have ended.

Street-Porter, 59, was arrested and questioned on January 16 in connection with an alleged racially-aggravated public order offence.

The altercation occurred during a row over parking near Street-Porter's home in Clerkenwell.

She attributed her behaviour to being "totally distraught" after returning from her sister's funeral. waveguide
