Troubled mum-to-be Kerry Katona was rushed to hospital yesterday amid fears she has a fatal illness.
Doctors think Kerry, 27, may have developed pre-eclampsia - which kills 10 mothers and 1,000 babies in Britain each year.
Its cause is unknown but it leads to soaring blood pressure, agonising swollen limbs and kidney and liver failure.
The drama comes days after Kerry, whose child is due in May, ended her fourth rehab stint.
PR man Max Clifford said: "We're praying for her but only time will tell. In the past few weeks she's been in increasing pain with her legs and feet swollen. We just hope it's not pre-eclampsia."
The mum of three endured the mounting agony but was rushed from her home in Wilmslow, Cheshire, when it became unbearable.
Last night husband Mark Croft, 37, was by her hospital bedside in nearby Warrington. Worryingly, another symptom of the condition is premature birth and it causes around one in six of those in the UK.
Max added: "Mark's very concerned like the rest of us. But she is a fighter and we've all got our fingers crossed."
The scare rounds off a turbulent few days for Kerry, star of TV's Iceland ads. She has been rocked by claims of Mark's cheating and a text from an alleged lover is said to have triggered her re-entry into rehab last week.
A pal said last night: "She had only just left the clinic when this happened.
"It's another kick in the teeth for her after a terrible week but she's being brave."
