Kerry Katona axed by Iceland

Rumours are circulating today that frozen food giant Iceland have decided to axe Kerry Katona from their TV ads. The star was initially signed up in 2005, but after two years of controversy and claims of drug-taking she is no longer seen as a model mum (was she ever?). It would seem that heatworld aren’t the only ones who’ve been cringing over her “That’s why mums go to Iceland” chirping. Campaign magazine named her appearance with Jason Donovan as one of the worst celebrity ads of the year, saying, “It is enough to bring your canapés up.” Kerry’s agent Max Clifford has refused to confirm the rumours, stating, “As far as I’m aware Kerry is not being axed. I’m having talks with Iceland in January.” Aside from the ads being a bit crap, we have a sneaky suspicion that we weren’t the only ones who spied Kerry with her Sainsburys carrier bags recently…

Kerry Not Dumped

Thank the showbiz gods that be.

Kerry Katona is not being ditched by supermarket Iceland.

That's right folks, the catchphrase "That's why mums go to Iceland" will still ring merrily in your ears.

And from the lips of our v own Kezza, to be sure.

Some may argue Kerry's struggles over the past few years - entering rehab for cocaine addiction, battling for custody of her two kids with ex-hubby Brian McFadden and facing criticism for smoking while pregnant - might not make her ideal role-model mum.

But we were frankly g-u-t-t-e-d when we heard from the Daily Mirror that Kezza was being given the boot by frozen food empire Iceland, in her TV role for them as a mum who loves nowt more than their icy foodstuffs.

The thought of watching those ads without a close-up of Kezza's face tucking into shiny profiteroles was honestly not worth considering.

So, imagine our relief when Iceland itself released a statement saying:

"Following the piece in today's Daily Mirror, Iceland can confirm that Kerry Katona is still under contract as the spokesperson of Iceland advertising.

"We are in negotiations with Kerry for next year's contract. This was communicated to the Daily Mirror who chose to publish their article anyway."

Yippee - that's why we're off to Iceland. Get us a king prawn ring, pronto.
Sky
