Post subject:  Robert Kilroy-Silk gets my vote for Mr Nasty title

Public voting patterns: they're a mystery aren't they? Laura's gone from the X Factor, John Sergeant lives to strutt his stuff for YET another week on Strictly, and our dear nation gets the chance to give Robert Kilroy-Silk an early and highly deserved lesson in creepy crawly consumption - and we bungle it.

Instead it's poor squealy Nicola - gosh, surprise, we're actually going to a jungle! - McClean who gets to be the first bug muncher.

An hour and a half of televisual pleasure into the new I'm a Celebrity... and Kilroy Silk is already leading contender for Mr Nasty.

He began it by telling us what a "kind, loving, gentle, compassionate Robert" he is - and spent the rest of it demonstrating how little he possessed of these qualities.

Why his bullying of Carly Zucker? Seemingly because she's not famous enough for him. Ha! Hasn't he watched any previous series?

Fame has - rather wonderfully - nothing to do with popularity in this show. That's one of the reason why, along with her amazing hubris, Martina "I ended up pretty much being the greatest player that ever lived" Navratilova already has not a hope in hell of winning this daft programme... and the adorable, delightful, and hitherto largely forgotten Trekkie George Takei does.

[A little postcript: What on earth happend to the rain when Ant and Dec went in to the Red Camp at the end?

The presenters were sodden and the contestants were dry as a bone. Is each camp really just inside an enormous glass box? Are they even IN Australia? Perhaps Nicola was right all along...]
