BROCKET SAVED LAD'S LIFE IN CRASH
Feb 9 2004
LORD Brocket was hailed a hero last night for saving a teenager's life.
Ann Marie Ryan told how Brocket used army training to keep her son Karl alive after he was struck by a motorbike.
Karl, 16, had swallowed his tongue and was lying badly hurt when the lord ran from a restaurant and kept the lad's airways open for 10 minutes until an ambulance arrived.
Ann Marie, 40, said: "Karl would not be here today if it was not for Charlie Brocket. My son owes him his life and we pray for him every night.
"My son treats him as his guardian angel. He thinks the world of him.
"The doctors have told us that Karl would not have lived if Charlie had not intervened.
"He contacted the hospital to check on Karl and then came to visit Karl in our home to see how he was getting on. He didn't have to do that.
"He is every bit the gallant gentleman you see on the television."
She said the biggest shock was when he knocked on the door:
"We couldn't believe it when we saw this big handsome man.
I expected an old fogey with a moustache.
"I took out my best china and he laughed, 'We're very posh today, aren't we.' He said he used a mug.
"We didn't even know he was on I'm a Celebrity until we spotted him on the telly. We all screamed that's the lord that was in our living room'."
Karl, who was walking in the centre of Dublin when he was struck last March, added: "I will never forget him."
