Disgraced comic lines up jungle TV deal
SHAMED Michael Barrymore is to be offered a blank cheque to star in the next series of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!
Telly bosses reckon the ex-drink and drug addict will fit in with the other creepy-crawlies in the Australian jungle.
They hope his notoriety will pull in viewers - while broke Barrymore, 51, will see it as a last chance to revive his shattered career.
But last night the idea was greeted with fury as some fans suggested the disgraced entertainer should stay in the jungle for good.
Angry Terry Lubbock - whose son Stuart was found dead in the comic's swimming pool - said: "I've always thought that Barrymore was a snake but this is unbelievable.
"How can ITV contemplate putting this man back on a prime time family entertainment show?"
Bosses want Barrymore - who quit the UK for New Zealand at Christmas leaving behind an unpaid £1.4million tax bill - for the next jungle series in November. The show has just netted over £50million profit as Kerry McFadden was crowned Queen of the Jungle.
Barrymore could be joined by ex-Spice Girl Mel B, actress Patsy Kensit, DJs Jimmy Saville and Tim Westwood, and rocker Billy Idol.
An ITV insider admitted: "Michael is a star booking who would be a great draw for viewers.
"We believe there'd be great chemistry between him and the others. His fee is not an issue, bosses have said whatever it costs - get him."
Barrymore was the king of TV light entertainment with shows such as My Kind Of People.
But his career nose-dived after Stuart, 31, died in the pool at his home in Roydon, Essex, in 2001.
