THE quest to find a star for Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was a Saturday ratings winner for the BBC over ITV's bid to cast Grease.

Around 5.9million viewers tuned in to Any Dream Will Do, in which Andrew Lloyd-Webber is searching for a new leading man.

But while its figures had dropped by 800,000 from the previous week, it still beat Grease Is The Word.

IT was handbags at, er, teatime on Saturday as Denise Van Outen and Zoe Ball went head to head in the great musical ratings war.

The two TV beauties battled it out as BBC1’s Any Dream Will Do took on ITV1’s Grease Is The Word.

And in the first face-off, Denise came out the clear winner.

The second episode of Any Dream Will Do – the search for a star for a revival of Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat – pulling in 6.2million viewers, battering Zoe’s rival talent hunt.

ITV’s search for a new Danny and Sandy to head the cast of Grease attracted just 4.7million fans.

So, it’s Joseph 1 – Grease 0 . . . but there are weeks and weeks to go.

All in the SUN
