Shipwrecked is back! From now until the series launch on Sunday 1st February, we'll be revealing a new islander each day. Welcome aboard, shipmates...Ch4Shipwrecked: A Guide Eyes down, pencils sharpened, it's time for your Shipwrecked revision...
The IslandsThere are two islands in the show situated in the glorious South Pacific, with a half-mile coral reef lagoon separating the two. Each island is deserted, featuring only sandy beaches for sunbathing, rocky beaches for fishing and areas of lush vegetation suitable for making a camp.
The GameOne island is filled with Tigers and the other with Sharks. Calm down, not real ones. These are of course the names of the Shipwrecked tribes. The initial Shipwreckers are told their tribes in week one, and given either a tiger's claw or shark's tooth necklace which they must wear whilst on their island.
Each week new arrivals are dropped off. They'll spend an equal amount of time living life on each island, before deciding which tribe they want to become a part of for good. The aim of the game is simple - build the best camp, have the most fun and attract as many new arrivals as possible. The most popular island at the end of the series is the winner and a £70,000 prize is awarded.
The Beach PartyAt the end of each week there is a ceremonial beach party. This is where the new arrivals will decide which island they want to become a part of.
This is also where Shipwreckers can nominate themselves to switch islands. However, it is a risk - the other island's tribe do not have to accept them if they don’t want to. If a nomination is rejected, that Shipwrecker must wait until the next beach party before they can nominate themselves again. If more than one person nominates themselves, the other tribe must choose which one (if any) they want to take.
The KitThe Shipwreckers are provided with a few basic items such as a sleeping bag, sunscreen and a poncho. They're also allowed to bring a rucksack of their own items, such as clothes, shoes, a toothbrush and photos of their family (three photos max).
However, this being Shipwrecked, there's a whole host of prohibited items that they're not allowed to bring. These range from the obvious (mobile phones, Swiss Army knives, ipods...) to the surprising (mirrors, cotton wool, watches...) and even a few items they'd be fools to bring in the first place (hair straighteners... I mean, where would you even plug them in??).
The FoodA basic ration is provided which fulfils the recommended calorific daily allowance of each Shipwrecker. And when we say basic we mean basic.
If they want something more substantial they'll have to hunt and fish for it. And if they want a burger and chips... well, that's just not happening is it.
Contact with the Outside WorldThere isn't any, so don't bother asking!
Twists
Of course, the rules may change at any time, but I'm not going to tell you about that here, am I? Stay tuned folks...
