Piers Morgan set to sign multi-million pound deal to host Larry King chat show

CNN chiefs have moved swiftly to dismiss reports that US newsman Larry King's talk show will be cancelled in favour of new programming featuring Piers Morgan.

The veteran broadcaster's nightly news show, Larry King Live, has experienced a slump in ratings over the last year and bosses at the CNN network are said to be discussing a replacement for the 76 year old.

Morgan was reportedly in negotiations to take on the role.

However, CNN bosses insist they have not reached a deal to replace Larry King

A network spokesperson said: "Not surprisingly, there is no shortage of people who would love to succeed Larry King if and when he moves on, but rumours that we are close to signing a deal for a Larry King replacement are untrue.

"We are currently looking at replacing our 8pm programme and that is our priority. Larry is a beloved member of the team, and he will continue to be part of the CNN family into the future."

Piers Morgan Signs CNN Deal

Piers Morgan has signed a £5.5m deal to replace Larry King.

The Britain's Got Talent judge agreed to the four-year contract with US network CNN and will work for 30 weeks of the year so is expected to move to the States.

Chat show legend Larry is due to step down from Larry King Live later this year and rumours had been rife as to who would replace the 76-year-old interviewer.

American presenters Ryan Seacrest and Katie Couric were said to be in the running but producers thought former newspaper editor Piers would make the ideal replacement.

However, Piers' new deal means he will have to quit his role on the Britain's Got Talent judging panel because he will not have enough time to commit to the programme.
