Britian's Got Talent, audition week two, ITV, review

Silly season seemed to have come early on Britain’s Got Talent (ITV). As if this series wasn’t daft enough already, tonight saw several moments of pure slapstick. A wheelchair was pushed over co-host Ant McPartlin’s foot. Amanda Holden bumped into a concrete pillar which had a bigger range of expressions than her. An over-excited auditionee even thrust his groin into the backside of Declan Donnelly, who pulled his best Carry On face.

Britain’s Got Talent triumphs again in ratings battle with The Voice

Britain’s Got Talent has triumphed once again in the Saturday night ratings battle, seeing off competition from The Voice for the third week in a row.

Simon Cowell juggernaut BGT managed an average audience of 10.3 million, including those viewers who watched it on +1 catch-up channel.

Meanwhile, The Voice drew in 7.9m viewers, having changed to a later time slot so that it could avoid a clash with Britain’s Got Talent.

Cowell's relentless machine dominates Saturday night for ITV

Saturday brought about the kind of showdown that keeps schedulers up at night as ITV and the BBC's big guns of helium-light entertainment went head to head. Though only intersecting for 15 minutes, the third episode of Britain's Got Talent (ITV, 7pm ) was enough to put the pressure on the Beeb's talent show with a 'twist' - The Voice UK (8:05pm).

As more hopefuls queued up in hope of being the next big thing to eventually be discarded by the British public, Simon Cowell and his motley crew of over-qualified talent sniffer dogs put the mediocre in their place.

A total average audience of 9 million viewers watched as Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden tried to keep straight faces while judging others on their worthiness. The all-singing, all-dog-dancing Saturday night extravaganza took in a very impressive 43% audience share. Despite peaking at 10.2 million viewers in the final fifteen minutes, the show did see a sharp drop in viewers once its rival started airing on BBC One.

Britain's Got Talent judges left standing for hopefuls

Tongue-tied singer Alex Keirl goes down a storm on Britain's Got Talent tonight, getting a standing ovation from the audience for his version of Bring Him Home from Les Miserables.

The judges did not expect much from the 20-year-old student, from Chester, after he told them he practiced his vocals on a kareoke machine and explained that the tip of tongue was permanently "fastened to the bottom of my mouth".

But he impressed the panel, with David Walliams telling him he had a "really stunning voice", while Alesha Dixon praised his "great vocal performance".
