LOVE ISLAND DIDN'T ADD UP

LOVE Island finished as it started...a complete mess that no-one watched.

Right up until the tragically feeble finale saw football kids Bianca "Bamber" Gascoigne and Calum "simply-not-the" Best crowned the King and Queen of nothing in particular, ITV's hilarious reality car crash continued to deliver an impressive textbook lesson on how not to make a television programme.

At the end of seven risible weeks, horrid hosts Patrick Kielty and Fearne Cotton were still heaping contempt on the poor dumb animal contestants who - to their credit - continued to pluckily showcase their incredible stupidity. And the whole ridiculous production just petered out. "I'm looking forward to being able to have a conversation without the whole of the UK knowing about it," droned baritone Bianca, who clearly hadn't been told about the dismal viewing figures.

"What's three times three?" asked A-grade weirdo Kelle Bryan in the last of the useless games that did so little to alleviate the pervasive sense of boredom.

"Six," ventured Bianca, at 19 a shining testament to Britain's much maligned educational system.

Spotty Kate Lawler, who devoted most of her time on the rain-soaked South Sea hell hole to vomiting, declared: "Calum's too cool for school." After he failed to successfully multiply eight by seven we kind of guessed that Kate! But George Best's handsome son almost provided some much-needed passion. Until the producers inexplicably ruined his budding romance with Ms Gascoigne by bringing back her jealous former squeeze Leo Ihenacho.

Idiotic clichŽ queen Sophie Anderton -of course - wasn't in a rubbish TV show. She was on "a journey". To the asylum, I suspect. Where she'll meet loony Lee "Harvey" Otway who, sadly, ballroom Brendan Cole only punched six times.

And as for religious nut Kelle. For her ...you just can't beat the bishop.

Now they're giving odds on Sven Goran Eriksson "starring in the next series of Love Island".

Trouble is... there won't be a next series. Mirror

Models of success

By Sinead McCavana

03 September 2006

Calum Best's chiselled good looks earned him a place on TV's Love Island and a fat pay cheque to boot.

But George Best's gorgeous son is just one of a number of male and female models with Ulster roots currently coining it in.

Lovely Jamie Dornan was recently paid thousands of pounds by Calvin Klein to appear in the fashion house's latest advertising campaign.

The Co Down lad's future in the business has now been firmly established after being pictured with infamous supermodel Kate Moss draped over him.

Jamie's good looks also caught the eye of Hollywood actress Keira Knightley, with whom he enjoyed a lengthy relationship.

Another local model, who looks set for international stardom, is Fermanagh beauty Tanya McMenamin.

Last month she signed a lucrative contract with top agency Elite Premier.

The 23-year-old's stunning looks have earned her a staggering £10,000-a-day pay deal!

Belfast model Orlaith McAllister is also laughing all the way to the bank, after baring her surgically enhanced assets on last year's Big Brother.

Since then, the north Belfast lass has appeared in numerous lads mags and national newspapers.

Her friend Zoe Salmon, a former Miss Northern Ireland, landed herself a well-paid television presenting job on kids' favourite, Blue Peter, in January 2005.

Another former beauty queen, Dungannon's Joanne Salley went on to grace pages of celebrity magazine Hello after finding love with England rugby hero Matt Dawson.

The former teacher has also worked in TV and is currently working on new projects.

Coleraine lass, Mehrnoosh Dehaghani, is also making waves in the modelling world after winning a competition to appear in top men's mag FHM.

The 22-year-old is also pursuing a fashion designing career in London and has already worked with the likes of Julian McDonald.

One of Ulster's newest rising stars comes in the form of Londonderry's Charlotte Coyle, proving you don't need to have a figure like Kate Moss to make it big in modelling.

Last month, the size 18 model made a programme with Channel 4 where she organised and hosted a 'Fat Beauty Contest'

The 24-year-old hit the big time in the US in 2002 in fashion campaigns for larger ladies, including a 20ft billboard poster in the heart of New York City.

Pete's Life
By Peter Snodden
03 September 2006

And so, Love Island 2006 is no more.

After trying to keep abreast of what has been happening over the past seven weeks I feel a bit hard done by as the final left me in disarray - it was a build-up to absolutely nothing.

Calum Best and Bianca Gascoigne (right) walked away as the golden couple and 3.8 million people switched on to watch the series finale.

I wonder if they were as disappointed as I was?

Also on a reality TV trip, it seems that Big Brother winner Pete Bennett has been commissioned to write his autobiography!

I can't blame him, nor should you. I mean, £1 million is on the line for the deal if it goes ahead.

If you are missing Pete, rumour has it that we'll be seeing him again as he and housemate girlfriend Nikki (left) have been approached to appear in the new series of I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here...

Other celebs including Rachel Stevens, Michelle Marsh, ex-Blue singer Lee Ryan, David Gest (pictured with ex-wife Liza Minnelli) and Calum Best are rumoured to be jetting off down under with Ant and Dec as they present the sixth series in November.

KATE'S HOTWAY

Love Isle star gets steamy... with little Lee Otway

THERE was precious little action while the cameras rolled on Love Island - but back at the hotel I can reveal romance blossomed for demented loser Lee Otway and co-star Kate Lawler.

The pocket-sized Romeo - who claims he's bedded more than 150 women - says he and Kate locked themselves away for a night of passion when the show finished last week.

And speaking to me just hours after jetting back to Britain on Friday, lusty Lee, 24, revealed he's fallen head over heels for the 26-year-old TV beauty.

He confessed: "Kate came back to my hotel when she left the island and we had a bit of a kiss and a cuddle.

"But it's between me and her exactly what happened. I'm a gentleman - but it was a really nice experience. "Do I fancy her? Yeah, of course I do, it's Kate Lawler. And we swapped numbers and she texted me when I got back.

"I don't want to say too much because it's early days.

"But I like her and I wouldn't mind getting to know her a bit more."

I n the show, Otway switched his affections to blonde Kate - who used to date Middlesbrough and England footballer Jonathan Woodgate - after being rejected by playboy playmate Colleen Shannon. Telly fans saw him smash up the island beach hut in a jealous rage when she showed him the red card after weeks of flirting.

And Lee admits being turned down on national TV dampened his sexual appetite.

The former Hollyoaks star told me: "The old Lee would have just jumped in feet first with a girl like Kate but I've changed. I don't want to do that any more.

"Maybe it's a knock-on effect from what happened with Colleen.

"But I'll start off as mates with Kate and I'll let you know in a few weeks if there's something there."

Luckless Lee, who says he is now considering a raft of offers including a record deal, went on to dismiss claims about his sexuality.

Viewers were left confused by his girlie behaviour and tearful episodes.

But last night the diminutive star insisted he was "100 per cent" straight.

He added: "Kate described me as the gayest straight man she'd ever met.

"But so what if I like Moulin Rouge and Titanic and if I'm not ashamed to cry? I have snogged my male friends on a night out for a laugh.

"But I can do things like that because I'm so secure in my sexuality."

You said it mate.Mirror

::lol:: ::lol:: ::lol::

Funniest thing I've ever read.
Kate equates Lee to one of her gay friends for God's sake!!!
Mind you she might have sadistic tendencies & wants her own 'Colleen' situation! ;) :D

As Suzanne Kerins says in The Sunday Mirror - 'Kate... put him out of his misery'

Love Island - Sophie has her say!

According to the latest tabloids, model Sophie Anderton has finished with reality TV programmes.

The 29 year old celeb who's just come back from Fiji is quoted in the Sun as saying:“Reality TV is anything but reality – you won’t catch me on Big Brother or Love Island again. Producers distort things in the way they edit you.”

Oh dear!

Fashion show date for Love Island winner

Love Island winner Calum Best is to jet into Ireland later this month for a high-profile fashion event.

In his first Irish appearance since winning the reality television competition, the top model will be one of the celebrity guests at the West Coast Cooler Glamour Fashion Show in Dublin.

The shows, which will feature a series of celebrity guests, are taking place in the Radisson SAS Hotels in Dublin, Athlone, Cavan, Sligo, Letterkenny, Galway, Cork and Limerick during September and October.

Calum will be attending the Dublin show in the Radisson SAS Hotel on September 25 next where he will be interviewed by the host Alan Hughes.

Guests at the shows will view fashions from selected boutiques and designers from around the country, as well as get tips from leading models, stylists and celebrity guests. Tickets for the shows are priced at 50 euro (£34).

Supermodel Caprice and Fair City’s David Mitchell were just some of the well-known names who attended the event last year.

Last month, millions of television viewers tuned in to watch Bianca Gascoigne and Calum, who were both helped to fame due to their footballer fathers, be crowned the winners of Love Island.

The son of footballing legend George Best became romantically entangled with Paul Gascoigne’s 19-year-old stepdaughter on the show.

Calum was flown in to the show late after Bianca said she wanted to find love with with a Calum Best clone, and the couple were voted into the Love Shack within hours.

Other people featured on the show included model Sophie Anderton, Big Brother winner Kate Lawler, former Eternal member Kelle Bryan and Strictly Come Dancing star Brendan Cole.

VIP: LEE HAS OTS FOR JAKKI

LOVE Island romeo LEE OTWAY has dumped fellow castaway KATE LAWLER for a sexy glamour model JAKKI DEGG.

The pint-sized ex-Hollyoaks actor, 24, claims he and Kate shared a night of passion after leaving the ITV show. But now he's cooled it for Jakki who'd grown close to him even BEFORE he flew to Fiji for filming.

A source said: "Jakki was a bit annoyed at his outrageous flirting in Fiji. But she has forgiven him and he has told her it's over between him and Kate."

WHAT KATIE DJ'D NEXT
Edited By Mickey Mcmonagle

LOVE Island star Kate Lawler is about to burst on to the nation's airwaves.

The sexy queen of clubs is a top dance DJ and her stint on TV's tropical reality show has grabbed the attention of major radio stations.

She told Email that speculation linking her to Fergie's old Radio 1 slot is wide of the mark.

But rivals XFM would love to put the feisty 26-year-old on air.

Kate - who has also posed in lingerie for an Anne Summers ad campaign - said: "I would love to do more radio but I am really snowed under with DJ-ing gigs and more TV.

"I prefer radio to TV - I have the face for it! I don't like seeing myself on TV. I'm more comfortable on radio where I can just talk forever.

After she turned into tantrum queen...

Model Sophie Anderton has admitted her appearance on reality show Love Island ‘backfired’.

The highly strung star launched into a series of tantrums on the ITV programme this summer, and became known for her increasingly baffling pronouncements.

However, Anderton claims she was wrong-footed by the “mind games” producers played on her, even though she’d already appeared on another high profile reality TV show, ‘I’m A Celebrity…’.

She said in an interview on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross, “I think it backfired. It wasn't what I expected, it was difficult. I didn't expect them to throw so many mind games into it.

"I didn't expect to be so emotional, but I asked for it really. I'm a glutton for punishment."

But we bet she's the only Love Island contestant who'll be interviewed on Jonathan Ross, so it can't be all bad.

Love Island 'cost £12m'

Quote:
ITV's summer reality flop Love Island is estimated to have cost £12m to produce, twice as much as the show it was designed to torpedo, Big Brother.
Flights, hotels and fees associated with using an exotic location in the South Pacific, not to mention crew and entourage reported to be in the hundreds, contributed to the sky-high production cost of the series, according to industry insiders.

By contrast the relatively cheap London location of Big Brother, and crew and staff numbers thought to be around a more modest 60, meant that Channel 4's most recent series cost around £6m.

According to figures from media agency Initiative, the latest series of Big Brother attracted an average adult audience of 4.2 million across the series. ITV managed around 2.14 million adult viewers.

In terms of the most significant audience for both shows, 16- to 34-year-olds, Love Island averaged 736,000 viewers and a 16.6% viewing share.

In contrast, Big Brother averaged 1.96 million 16- to 34-year-old viewers and a 41% share.

However, one head of TV at a media buying agency came to the show's defence, saying that investment in Love Island was necessary to help bolster the programming schedule over the difficult summer period.

A second TV director added that the generally later start time of 10pm for the ITV show also skewed a direct comparison with Big Brother as the Channel 4 programme aired largely at 9pm.

The Big Brother franchise has become a major investment over the years for Channel 4 as it expands platforms and the technological sophistication behind each series.

The first series of the show is thought to have cost the broadcaster just £2m, according to a source.

Love Island: lost out to Big Brother in the battle for 16- to 34-year olds
