The Monastery: BBC2 9pm Tuesday

Five guys agree to spend 40 days and 40 nights living alongside 22 monks at Worth Abbey in Suxess. The monks follow the the doctrine of St Benedict, which boils down to "putting nothing before the love of Christ", constant prayer, extended periods of silence, perpetual obedience, unconditional humility.
The volunteers are:

Nick: A mature student

Peter: A retired schoolteacher

Tony: Someting in the media

Gary: An ex convict [former UDA member]

Anthoney: A bachelor

I liked the idea of this one as there is no prize money at stake and the contestants will be doing a lot of soul searching tho was quite surprised the monls would let a camera crew into the monastery.

IN what must be the quietest reality TV show ever, five ordinary blokes start a 40-day stint with the Benedictine monks at Worth Abbey in West Sussex .

After a few days, there's a breakthrough for Gary, a former UDA man who has been in and out of prison. But something tells me that Anthoney, who's brought along his iPod and mobile, will be slower to embrace St Benedict's principles of silence, obedience and humility.

And you can bet that even as we speak, someone, somewhere over at Channel 4 is having Jade Goody and Nadia fitted for cassocks.

If it's brotherly things you're looking for, The Monastery - BBC2 (9pm) - has five volunteers living the lives of monks for forty days at Worth Abbey in West Suffolk. Quiet and contemplative, it's a world away from their normal lives. It's an interesting premise, and one that's been getting good write-ups, but if you're looking for sex, drugs and rock and roll stars, you may be disappointed. Or at least I hope you will. I haven't seen the rest of the series yet.
