Quote:
12pm: The unlikely prospect last week of Celebrity Love Island beating Big Brother became a reality last night as 4.7 million viewers tuned in for a 60-minute special of ITV1’s Z-List celeb fest.
In a surprise switch for the beleaguered Love Island, the sun and booze-drenched antics from Fiji helped beat off Channel 4’s Big Brother, during a 30-minute crossover between the two shows.

Love Island brought in 4.7 million and a 21.8% share of the audience from 9.30 to 10.30pm, while 50 minutes of Big Brother attracted 3.7 million viewers and a 19.7% share.

Elsewhere in a quiet night for the terrestrial TV market, BBC One’s New Tricks, starring Amanda Redman and Denis Waterman, clinched the highest prime time show of the evening, away from the traditional festival of soaps on Monday.

The latest in the police drama about a group of unconventional coppers grabbed a 28.1% share of the audience and 6.4 million viewers.

Earlier in the evening EastEnders commanded a 43.5% share and 9.1 million viewers at 8pm, while a double bill of both Emmerdale and Coronation Street on ITV1 – wrapped around EastEnders – scored 6.8 million and 9.3 million for the rural soap and 10 million for Corrie.

BBC Two’s documentary on the influence of art on society and science, in How Art Made the World, faired poorly up against rival channels.

The 60-minute programme attracted just 1.4 million viewers and a 6.1% share of the audience at 9pm.

But heading off BBC Two in the prime time slot was Five, which a fractionally higher rating for She Stole My Foetus: Extraordinary People with 1.5 million viewers from 9.30pm.

LONDON - ITV's 'Celebrity Love Island' won the ratings war with 'Big Brother' last night by attracting an extra 200,000 viewers as the appeal of beachside antics take over from housemate brawls and bitching.

'Celebrity Love Island' drew in 3.6m viewers with 'Big Brother' averaging 3.4m across the equivalent time slot. This gave ITV1 a 17.5% share at 10pm compared with Channel 4, which averaged 200,000 fewer viewers. ITV had a 25% share of the all important 16-34 demographic up 6.1 points.

In 'Celebrity Love Island', former 'Hollyoaks' actor Paul Danan and Playboy pin-up Nikki Ziering spent four minutes of "quality time" together in the toilets last night, made infamous by Calum Best and Rebecca Loos who spent 18 minutes in there last week.

ITV is planning to set pulses racing among the girls, after Zeiring's surprise arrival to the Fijian island, with Australian surfing champion Paul Fisher set to join the group today.

Abi Titmuss has cheered up after fearing no one liked her, by being voted into the Love Shack with former Manchester United footballer Lee Sharpe, who had sent her a postcard from the secluded beach retreat saying "not the same without you," to which Abi replied, "We're going to have some fun."

Sharpe and Ziering's time on the Love Shack did not go to plan with the model refusing to go snorkelling in case it ruined her hair and dragging Sharpe around the shops in her quest for a new bikini.
