MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay (AP) — A TV reality show stunt in South America has turned deadly.
Seven residents of a Uruguayan town who were trying to raise money for their local hospital were killed when they fell under the wheels of a train they were trying to move. Police say several others were hurt, three of them critically.
Hundreds of townspeople from Young, about 235 miles west of the capital of Montevideo, were taking part in the stunt. Some were pushing and others were pulling.
The TV program, “A Challenge to the Heart,” enables communities to raise money for local charities by completing difficult tasks. In this case, they were to move a train a certain distance down railroad tracks.
