Almost half the UK wants to be famous, according to research out today.

Three quarters (73.6%) believe that everyone can have celebrity status for at least 15 minutes.

A massive 43.8% express a desire to be famous, and for half a million people it is their life goal.

The researchers put together a formula for wannabes to find out whether they have what it takes.

They came up with the formula F = (C + E) X (D + R), meaning fame equals (charisma and exhibitionism) X (determination and ruthlessness).

Musical ability is regarded as the most deserving quality (19.4%) ahead of sporting ability (15.4%) and business prowess (10.2%).

The research, carried out for Thorpe Park, also named socialite Paris Hilton as the most pointless female celebrity (28.8%), followed by Big Brother star Jade Goody (21.5%).

Researchers, led by King`s College London fame and celebrity expert Der Glenn Wilson, interviewed 1000 people across the country to help launch Thorpe Park`s talent scout Easter weekend.

Post subject:  FRAN TOPS LIST OF BRITONS PLAYING THE FAME GAME

Reality TV hunk beats Paris and Jade to title of the UK's most useless celebrity

HE'S an ex-minder to a boyband, dated a couple of well-known women and came third on a reality TV show but has left the public asking "What exactly does he DO?"

Now Fran Cosgrave has a new claim to fame. He has been voted by Britons as society's most pointless celebrity - beating even Paris Hilton and Jade Goody.

The hunky Irishman muscled ahead of the airhead socialite, models, former soap stars and both winners and losers from Big Brother to top the poll of fame-hungry nobodies.

Fran was once a minder to Irish band Westlife, dated and had a child with former Atomic Kitten Natasha Hamilton and once went out with Jodie Marsh.

He has come to the public's attention through two reality TV shows, I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! and Celebrity Love Island in recent years.

Famous for being famous, he fended off heiress Paris, Essex girls Jade, Jodie and Chantelle and even Jordan in a report commissioned by Thorpe Park.

But although they and other "celebs" such as Calum Best, Paul Danan and Dean Gaffney are often derided for their pursuit of fame, millions would like to be in their shoes, the study said.

The theme park's research found 44 per cent of Britons want to be famous and 74 per cent believe in Andy Warhol's prediction in the Sixties that everyone will be famous for 15 minutes.

Like Chantelle, who started off as a Paris Hilton lookalike before winning Celebrity Big Brother, many people dedicate their lives to finding fame, even if they have no talent to trade on.

Psychology expert Dr Glenn Wilson from King's College London, analysed a study of 1000 adults for Thorpe Park about what makes people famous and why.

He found four key personality factors - charisma, determination, exhibitionism and ruthlessness - were common in those who wanted to be famous along with those with genuine star quality.

Those who truly deserve to be famous, unlike the list of pointless personalities, often have a genuine talent, the research added. One in five said those with musical ability merited being famous, 15 per cent named sporting prowess and 10 per cent said being good at business was a deserving factor.

The public's own desire for fame varies between those who will queue up overnight for a few seconds on Pop Idol to others who are too scared to even take part in a school play.

For instance, 14 per cent will happily pick up a microphone and sing to a karaoke.

Half of men admit they would go out with a woman if they thought it would enhance their careers and they are also five times more likely to strip for a TV show than women - 12 per cent of men would get their kit off, compared to 2.5 per cent of women.

10 Most Pointless Celebrities are:

1. Fran Cosgrave

2. Paris Hilton

3. Jade Goody

4. Calum Best

5. Chantelle

6. Paul Danan

7. Jodie Marsh

8. Dean Gaffney

9. Preston

10. Jordan
