Do you mean Meliz who was in the sing-off? In which case, I agree, complete and utter rubbish. What is that Andrew Lloyd Webber on? He may want a modern Maria, but 1 It's about the war, not about 2006 2 She will have to sing in the show. Belinda could sing beautifully, even under pressure in the sing-off tonight (and even in the cringingly awful, get the boot, So Long, Farewell exit routine when she must have been in pieces). Meliz, the Turkish girl was rubbish in both songs tonight. She may be able to sing Fever, or whatever she sang last week (she was good at that one) but it's got nothing to do with whether you can sing Rogers and Hammerstein. Grrrrrrrrr.
Connie will win, hands down. And if she doesn't,(which would be a travesty) she'll be the one with the lasting West End career. Leanne really gets on my nerves. Never had singing lessons? Rubbish. AND she's always got an answer for everything. I think she's going to be the next one to annoy the judges by thinking she knows it all. I'm also not keen on the feud they're trying to manufacture between Simone (Romainian one with the accent) and the rest of the girls. Simone really wants this. She won't get it, she's no Maria, but she'll get some west end work out of it. No doubt she'll be taking over in Evita, or be the next Velma in Chicago. |

I thought it was ridiculous that Belinda was out - she has a beautiful voice and Meliz was nothing great tonight. One that really stood out was Helena... what a change from last week. Thought she did really well. And is Simona not the one from Romania? Does hippo not mean her? I didn't like what I heard of her song tonight. Generally though she has a really good voice and seems to be good at acting but as CT said, Maria isn't really the part for her. |

Ooooh minnie, I totally agree! They could easily sing songs from other musicals, and not just Rogers and Hammerstein, but more recent ones. Why all the pop songs? They're not trying to be pop singers! It's as if they're saying they don't want a traditionally trained voice to sing Maria, when, technically, it'd be impossible for anyone without that training to sing it well.

I didn't like Simona tonight either, but the song didn't suit her. and her SINGING TEACHER shouldn't have told her to shout the words at the end-sounded awful. Given the right song, though, she's great. |

It's going to get soooo annoying if they do the same song at the end every week, it's already starting to grate. And aye, I agree that they should sing songs from musicals - there are so many brilliant ones and as has been said this is what they will eventually be singing. Suppose it depends on the pop song but some can be a lot easier than songs from musicals as well. |

Oh she stands out a million miles .. but OMG shes a bitch .. a right premadona I bet .... Abi is my fav .. Great program from the Beeb .. I thought webber was going to be a plonker, but actualy his critique is very very good and positive which is a welcome break from the X factor which is in the usual insult arrow fodder format. |

Meliz was bizarre-she couldn't sing well at all for the last two weeks, but then when she was kicked off, and must have been so upset she sang So Long very well, with no visible nerves! Is it another case of being able to sing the musicals repertoire, but not any of the rubbish songs they're making them sing every week? Abi was fab tonight. BTW, found out two interesting things this week. 1 Met someone who would know, who confirmed the rumour that another soprano has been contracted to sing all but two of the performances each week (probably stipulated by the insurance that ALW and David Ian took out on the show to save another Martine McEastender's catastrophe). 2 Was shown the bit in the film where Mother Superior swears at Maria! Bet you can't guess what it is! The assault course was completely irrelevant. But for me, the highlight of tonights show was...ALW's new red highlights! Shocking! |

2! Umm ... I sprinkled a massive pinch of salt from day one of the show as to how long the winning Maria will actually be allowed to last as the main lady. Shows like this are soon forgotten and the actual person playing Maria in the production is less important than some musicals as the show is so well known and liked. The ultimate irony was getting advice from than 60 min makeover super bitch, who I just can’t stand. It’s interesting to watch this musical theatre competition and the derogative position Webber has on pop stars. He dropped in a dig at Andrea Cor last week and continues his theme that they are lower on the scale of entertainment than his gig, good on him makes a change to hear that point of view. Watching the show makes me wish that it were more interactive, its obviously filling the gap the scraping of FA left and very well, I would love to be able to look in at the rehearsals and the obvious frictions going on between some of the Marias. Anyway. My fav remains as Abi.. Doesn’t she look like Sue from Mel and Sue, remember the bread adds they did and the vaguely popular daytime show they once did .. iAbi has to be sues younger sister

I missed this last night, as I was out at a party. So far I've only seen one episode - last week's, but I think I'll be watching from now on. The So Long, Farewell ending is a very cruel touch!!! And ALW's facial expressions crack me up. |

Blags, you mean Mel. Sue's the dark one on the left. Abi DOES look incredibly like her! Also, re the 6 out of 8 shows Maria, I wonder if she's a failsafe? If Connie wins, and she should, she would certainly have the stamina to do the full 8 shows. I don't think any of the others has had the same training as her though(I think she did 3yrs at Mountview and graduated last year, but I looked at the BBC website to check and they've taken the page away! Hope it's just for maintenance!) I wouldn't put money on any of the others doing all the shows. Many West End leads have it written in their contracts that they only do 6 out of the 8 shows a week, and as a consequence there are two understudies, one who understudies the lead and does the two matinees, the other who understudies the second lead on her performances. Can't wait to find out what the producers have planned-it's worse than a Big Brother twist-first rule, we can change the rules at any time! |

RANDOM IRRITATIONS ANDREW Lloyd Webber - awful on TV. When he stares at those would-be Marias he looks like he should be in a dirty mac in Soho. It's obvious that "Maria" is going to be Aoife and Connie, so why prolong the agony? Besides, the winner will only be a stand-in, and, from what I hear, it'd be a better show if they skipped the singing and televised the backstage rows. People |
