A new reality show will grace our TV screens next month.
Tusker Project Fame is here and young musical hopefuls went for auditions in droves last week for a chance to be among four Ugandan contestants that will compete with eight other East Africans for a shot at fame, a luxury car and a lucrative recording contract. Hopefully, there will be enough activity in the Kenyan-based academy to keep viewers glued onto the small screen for the contest's seven-week duration starting October 29.
More importantly, this reality show may be the harbinger for others like Big Brother East Africa now that Endemol, the production company behind these initiatives has set up shop in East Africa. Before you know it other shows in the Endemol stable like Fear Factor, Extreme Makeover and Who Wants to be a Millionaire will be upon us.
Endemol will surely stimulate the reality show television genre - what with their ability to attract endorsements from multinationals like East African Breweries Limited, the parent company of Tusker Malt Lager. But that is something our local TV broadcasters could have beaten Endemol to.
