Jason and Donny lined up for Joseph show.
In the TV battle to find the next Connie Fisher, we’re pretty sure that ITV1’s hunt for a Sandy and Danny in Grease is going to beat the BBC’s search for a new Joseph (as in the wearer of that Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat).
And that opinion hasn’t changed much given the news today that the BBC is bringing on board the once-stellar-but-not-quite-so-stellar-now talents of Jason Donovan and Donny Osmond to the show. Both Jason and Donny have played the role of Joseph on stage – and they’re going to be advising the hopeful young stars as they go through the ropes (learning the songs, carrying crooks, finding out how to wear that eponymous big cloak, etc).
Doctor Who star John Barrowman – who in a previous life was an all-singing, all-dancing West End star himself – and voice coach Zoe Tyler will be the show’s judges, with Graham Norton and Andrew Lloyd Webber reprising their How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? roles as the series host and impresario.
So far there hasn’t been any news from the ITV1 stable that Grease stars Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta will be brought on board for You’re The One That I Want – but fingers crossed! Still, we suppose they could always get Shane Richie and Hayeley Evetts instead, eh?
