The first programme of Castaway 2007, to be screened in early March and presented by Danny Wallace, reveals who has been cast away and exactly what they have been faced with on arriving at their new home.
The aim of Castaway in 2007 is the same as it was when the original series aired in 2000: it's a social experiment which takes ordinary people far, far away from their everyday lives and all the mod cons they take for granted. Viewers watch and learn with them as they try to build a new community and discover what really matters to them when the usual hustle and bustle of daily life is stripped away.
For 12 weeks they will live together on an island off the coast of New Zealand. Geographically, it is about as far as it's possible to get from the UK.
Richard Bacon presents an accompanying programme on BBC Three called Castaway - The Last 24 Hours, which will broadcast throughout the series.
