| Post subject: | Great British Menu |
It is a case of griddle pans at dawn as 14 chefs battle it out in the return of BBC Two's Great British Menu, which runs from April 02 to 06. The prize is the chance to cook for the French and prove that Britain can match the masters of gastronomy. In June, the winning chefs will storm the create a sumptuous banquet, to be hosted by the British Ambassador to France, Sir Peter Westmacott, and his wife, Susie. The banquet will be held at the Embassy in Paris, and the Ambassador's guest list will include some of the best French chefs and gourmands. Each week, two top chefs from each region will compete for a place in the national final by creating an original, four-course menu, consisting of a starter, fish course, main course and dessert. Jennie Bond oversees proceedings as last year's regional winners return to go head to head with new competitors in a bid to secure their dishes a place on the Great British Menu. The chefs taking part in this series are: Galton Blackiston and Sat Bains (Central England); Bryn Williams and Matt Tebbutt (Wales); Nick Nairn and Jeremy Lee (Scotland); Richard Corrigan and Noel McMeel (Northern Ireland); Atul Kochhar and Stuart Gillies (South East); Michael Caines and Mark Hix (South West); and Marcus Wareing and Mark Broadbent (North). The heats are judged by a panel of food experts – Prue Leith, Matthew Fort and Oliver Peyton – who decide which menu will go through to the final. It's then down to the public to vote for their favourite dish and who will go forward to cook at the Ambassador's banquet. Waveguide |
