BBC1’s search for a new Joseph in the Saturday night reality series Any Dream Will Do has once again emerged as the ratings winner against ITV’s Grease Is the Word.

The rival shows are on the hunt to find the leads for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Grease respectively.

Now in its third week, Any Dream Will Do had 6.1 million viewers tuning in between 8.25pm and 9.35pm on Saturday April 14. This was up 200,00 on the previous week’s show and gave it a 29% audience share.

Meanwhile, ITV’s Grease Is the Word, which sees a panel of judges - including David Ian and David Gest - search for two leads to play Sandy and Danny in a production due to open this summer, added viewers in its second week but was unable to beat the BBC’s figure.

It attracted an audience of 4.3 million people in the different time slot of 6.40pm - up 300,000 on the previous week’s show - giving it a share of 25%.

Saturday’s Any Dream Will Do programme was the first live show of the series and saw the 12 finalists perform in front of judges John Barrowman, Denise Van Outen, Bill Kenwright and singing coach Zoe Tyler, to secure their places on next weekend’s show.

Eighteen-year-old Chris Crosby was the first performer to have his dreams of appearing at the Adelphi Theatre this summer dashed when he fell into the bottom two alongside Ben Ellis, who was saved by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
