Reality TV is setting a dangerous precedent in its failure to reflect the changing ethnic make-up of Britain, the head of the Commission for Equalities and Human Rights, Trevor Phillips, has warned.
Speaking at a Royal Television Society event last night, Phillips, former head of current affairs at London Weekend Television, said the Celebrity Big Brother racism scandal had "polluted" a TV format that should have the potential to foster understanding between social and ethnic groups.
