Michelle Collins: to play one half of the bickering couple judging Rock Rivals
Viewers are to decide the season finale of ITV1's The X Factor-style drama Rock Rivals.
Two endings are being filmed of the glossy new show, which is being made by Footballers' Wives and Bad Girls producers Shed Productions.
Rock Rivals follows the back-stabbing and behind-the-scenes bitching at the eponymous, fictional talent show.
It focuses on the bickering husband-and-wife judges Karina and Mal Faith, played by Michelle Collins and Sean Gallagher.
As in The X Factor, each week a pop act gets voted off. Over seven episodes the hopefuls get whittled down until the audience at home chooses the winning act.
To accommodate this, two versions will be recorded of the eighth episode.
The winning act will go on to have their record released into the UK charts, as in The X Factor.
The competition will be the backdrop to the drama going on between the Faiths as their marriage breaks down spectacularly on and off screen.
Brian Park, the managing director of Shed Productions, said: "Rock Rivals has a real buzz to it and promises to be a worthy successor to Footballers' Wives - a blitzy combination of wild characters and pacey plots set against a world of ruthless ambition.
The ITV controller of network drama, Sally Haynes - who commissioned the show with the drama director, Laura Mackie - said: "The ongoing appeal for this type of talent show presents a ripe opportunity for a modern, fun drama that transports us backstage into the heady and fabulous extremes of the music business."
Rock Rivals will be executive produced by Brian Park, produced by Emma Turner and directed by Syd Macartney and Farren Blackburn.
Simon Cowell is a creative consultant on the show.
