The Baron - ITV1- Soon

Three celebrities get the chance to battle it out to become baron of a Scottish town in a new ITV1 show.

Legendary Sex Pistols manager Malcom McLaren, comedian and ex EastEnders star Mike Reid and ex Hear’Say singer Suzanne Shaw are all in the running.

The city-dwelling celebs will be uprooted from their normal lives and sent to a remote highland town near Banff in north east Scotland. There, they must convince the residents they have what it takes to be their baron.

After three weeks, they face an election – and whoever wins will become The Baron.

Ex-EastEnders Star Reid Dies

Former EastEnders star Mike Reid has died at the age of 67.
The actor suffered a heart attack while in Marbella, Spain.

Before he landed the role as Frank Butcher in the BBC show, he was also a well-known stand-up comedian.

Fellow comic Frank Carson said his death was "devastating news."

In recent months, Reid had semi-retired to Spain where he was living near a golf course.

His agent David Hahn said he had been in good health and his death "was a bolt out of the blue."

Hahn told Sky News that Reid was a "giant of a man" and "was always pro the man in the street."

He added: "The only consolation is that he didn't suffer."

Reid joined the EastEnders cast in 1987.

Despite a break from the show for a couple of years, he stayed until 2000.

He then announced he would be leaving the soap for good due to tiredness from the long filming schedules.

Mike Reid's reality triumph

Mike Reid was crowned the winner of an ITV reality show just weeks before his death.

Locals in the village of Gardens town, near Aberdeen, voted for the EastEnders star to be their real-life laird - choosing him over former Hear' Say singer Suzanne Shaw and ex-Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren.

Itv has not yet decided whether it will screen The Baron in the wake of Mike's death from a heart attack in Spain last week.
