CIRQUE'S SQUARED

EastEnders' heart-throb JAMES ALEXANDROU could be pulling on a leotard to perform daredevil stunts.

The Albert Square favourite, 22, has been approached to take part in the next Cirque de Celebrite.

James could compete against 11 other celebs in circus acts including trapeze and the tightrope. The Sky One show starts next month. People

Jenni Falconer's diet secrets

"I would quite like to look like Cameron Diaz," says Jenni Falconer, mulling over which celebrity she admires the most. "On a clearskin day obviously, but she's really beautiful."

"Ooh, and I like Angelina Jolie's face... And in 10 years' time I'd like to look as good as Cindy Crawford does now."

Refreshingly, the 31-year-old GMTV showbiz reporter, who is dating Cutting It actor James Midgley, seems unaware that she could give these stunning A listers a run for their money in the beauty stakes.

Here, Jenni gives us the skinny on how she keeps her figure in shape..

HOW DO YOU KEEP SO TRIM?

I work all sorts of hours so I can't commit to exercise classes. Although if I do have time, I'll do an army-style one. Soldiers take the classes and shout at you. I love it.

I also go running a lot, which I enjoy. Unfortunately because I'm presenting Cirque de Celebrite soon I've been banned from horse riding - they don't trust me not to injure myself.

ANY FOOD VICES YOU'D ADMIT TO?

I don't buy what I know I will eat. I only buy biscuits when I have guests because I know I'll scoff the lot in one go. I also love baguettes and ice cream, but because they're my vices I just don't buy them.

EVER DONE A FADDY DIET?

I think because I'm a woman I've pretty much tried them all. I started the Atkins diet once but I didn't even last the morning. I forgot that you're not even allowed orange juice so I messed it up straight away.

These diets are really difficult to stick to so now I just adopt the attitude of "eat less, exercise more". If you start obsessing about food then you just feel hungry all the time. If you keep yourself busy, you forget about eating.

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN OVERWEIGHT?

I've been a few stone heavier. When I started in TV I was filming on location and there was loads of chocolate and snacks. I was still a student, so back at uni I'd drink snakebite and black. It's disgusting, I can't think of anything more revolting now - and it's so calorific.

At the time my mum said, "Do you know what, Jenni, if you look at these photos of you, you'll be disappointed," and she was right. So I started running and watching what I ate.

DESCRIBE YOUR DIET

I don't like things that are rich or have sauces, so I always opt for plain food. I'll have chicken and vegetables or salad. I love Mexican food.

I'm a terrible cook. When I bought my flat it was a show flat and the kitchen was immaculate.

Five years on and the kitchen is still immaculate because I hardly ever cook anything.

I eat out a couple of times a week. At one time I was going to Wagamama all the time and scoffing chicken katsu curry. But it's deep-fried so I had to nip that addiction in the bud.

EXERCISE CLASS OR TV AND A GLASS OF WINE?

I've discovered you can go to the gym and watch TV! I time my visits for when Corrie and EastEnders are on and run on the treadmill while I watch them. I never drink at home, but when I go out I'll have a couple of glasses of wine. I get all giggly, I'm a lightweight!

ARE YOU A CALORIE-COUNTER?

I used to be terrible for it. I'd go to the gym, see how many calories I'd burned off and then know that I could eat that much. I don't bother now.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF SIZE ZERO?

I think it's pretty hideous. Sadly, as long as Hollywood employs size zero actresses, more of them will try to be that weight and more members of the public will emulate it. I wish there were more Kate Winslets around. The more successful people get, the thinner they seem to get. It's sad.

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TOO THIN?

If I lose too much weight, my bones start protruding and it looks disgusting. I was quite thin after a bad bout of flu a few years ago. My work told me to put on weight as I looked gaunt.

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS YOUR PERFECT SIZE?

My normal size is an eight, but for me it's whether I can fit into my jeans or not. I don't have scales because I never weigh myself. I have friends who get up in the morning and weigh themselves, they go to the toilet and weigh themselves, then they put their clothes on and weigh themselves. I don't want to be like that.

ANY QUICK-FIXES FOR "FAT DAYS"?

If I'm having a fat day I don't want to leave the house, I try and keep low-key. Tell yourself it's all in your head - and avoid tight clothes!

SALAD OR CHIPS?

I don't like chips - I got sick of them when I was a teenager. I used to eat chips and crisps all the time but when I was 14 I gave them up for Lent. Mum bet me that I couldn't go without them. I'm 31 and I haven't touched them since.

YOUR BEST EVER DIET TIP?

Eat when hungry and stay busy. Don't sit in doing nothing - you always check the fridge.

WOULD YOU EVER HAVE COSMETIC SURGERY?

It's not for me. But will it be the norm in 20 years? Wouldn't it be horrible if you were the only one who hadn't had a face-lift?

DO YOU EVER HAVE A FAST-FOOD BINGE?

I never did the fast food thing until my brother moved in, and then my boyfriend James after that. What is it about men and pizza and Chinese takeaways? I'd never order it on my own.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE/HATE MOST ABOUT YOUR BODY?

I hate my hideous feet - they're well worn from running and wearing stilettos. Mum says she'll know I've met the man I'll marry when he kisses my feet. I've asked James to kiss them and he won't. He says, "Are you joking? Look at the state of them!"

I find it hard to pick something I love. When I was riding every day I was pleased because it made my stomach flat.

ARE YOU PLANNING TO GET MARRIED?

It's going really well but I'm happy with the way things are.

DO YOU WANT KIDS?

One day - but not yet. I don't worry about my biological clock. Friends came round with babies and a toddler the other day and it's exhausting. Every toy makes a noise and they touch everything, and I think, "Noooo!" And my co-host Ben Shephard is a dad and he's always saying he hasn't slept!

FOLOW HER SLIMMING RULES

1 Start running All you need is a decent pair of trainers, so it's the cheapest exercise you can get and you can fit it in whenever you like. A 20-minute run will burn 160 calories.

2 Don't keep tempting treats in the house If there are calorific goodies a round you'll eat them. Instead, fill your cupboards with healthy snacks such as fruit and nuts to satisfy your hunger pangs.

3 Keep a fat photo A picture of you looking chubbier than you'd like is a great deterrent. Stick it somewhere that you'll se e it every day to remind you what happens when you give in to bingeing.

4 Only eat when you're hungry It's easy to snack when you're bored, so keep your self busy. If you're the kind of per son who gets really hungry, eat little and often. We of ten mistake thirst for hunger, so make sure you're drinking plenty throughout the day.

Cirque De Celebrite line-up announced

Lady Isabella Harvey, Hannah Waterman and Shane Lynch head the line-up for this year's Cirque De Celebrite.

Last year, after 10 gruelling weeks in the Big Top, Big Brother's Grace Adams-Short was crowned the winner.

Now 12 more celebs are taking up the challenge in a bid to become the new circus champion.

This year's line-up also includes Neighbours star Kyal Marsh, Cavegirl actress Stacey Cadman, Princess Tamara, Olympic athlete Dwain Chambers, Bad Girls' Antonia Okonma, footballer Dean Holdsworth, former Five singer Ritchie Neville, Casualty actor Luke Bailey and model Emily Scott.

Over 10 weeks the contestants will have to learn skills including the trapeze, the blind-folded high-wire and the wheel of death, under the watchful eyes of Cirque Surreal trainers Nikki Alexander and Jackie Leon-Sysum.

In each Sunday night live show - hosted by Jenni Falconer - the celebrities battle it out to win the votes of both the expert panel of judges, including Gaby Roslin, Cirque Surreal creator Phillip Gandey and choreographer Louis Spence, and the viewers at home.

These combined votes determine each week's winner - the star with the least votes will pack their bags and say goodbye to the circus.

Cirque De Celebrite returns on Sky One on October 7 at 8pm.

Voting Problems Hits Sky Show

footballer Dean Holdsworth has been invited back to Sky One's Cirque de Celebrité after a voting irregularity lead to him being evicted from the reality show on Sunday.

The "technical fault", in the public phone vote on the programme where celebrities learn circus tricks meant that some votes did not count toward the final result.

BSkyB said in a statement: "Sky is taking immediate action to remedy the situation.

"Voting in Cirque de Celebrité is all about enhancing the viewer experience and all revenues received by Sky as a result of the votes on the show go to charity. We would like to apologise to our viewers."

Sky is also offering all viewers who voted a refund, with the broadcaster saying it will match the amount of money made in revenue with a charity donation of its own. Sky is charging 25p per call.

60 SECONDS: Shane Lynch

Shane Lynch was one fifth of Boyzone and was briefly married to Eternal singer Easther Bennett. A staple of celebrity reality shows – notching up appearances in The Games, Love Island and now on Sky One's Cirque De Celebrité – he has recently married Sheena White. He can be seen demonstrating his circus skills every Sunday at 8pm.

How is the training for Cirque De Celebrité going?

I didn’t expect it to be so full on. Every day, we all warm up and then practise on these steel chains with balls on the end that you set on fire. Then I do tightrope walking, unicycling, juggling and other balancing acts with a board and cylinder. I’m two weeks late joining the other contestants for training because I was on my honeymoon. I’m going to do the best I can but if it’s not good enough then shame on me.

Did you have a nice honeymoon? Was it worth missing the training?

Yes it was, totally, ha ha. If I don’t learn anything, the honeymoon was worth it. We went on a road trip up the east coast of the United States for three weeks. It was great.

Was it as embarrassing to be on Love Island as it looked?

No, there were some great people on the programme but it just wasn’t the show I thought it was going to be in terms of how they put people together. If you went there and met someone you liked, then fine, let it blossom and grow. But the minute you mentioned ‘she’s pretty’, the producers sent you out on a date and it became a pressurised situation. I’m not the kind of person that responds well to that. I’m a bit rebellious.

You’ve done other reality shows. Have you picked up any skills that have come in handy?
I learned how to listen to your coach on The Games. If you’re Mr Know-It-All, you’re not going to get very far. They’ll show you how to do your best, so you need to listen to them.

You must have been used to women throwing themselves at you after Boyzone.
Don’t believe the hype – that’s clichéd stuff. Yes, you get a lot of female interest but most girls are polite and it’s easy to determine if they’re interested in you in a personal way or just a fan-fantasy way.

I’m a physical type of guy. Give me a shovel and I’ll dig you an amazing hole

What was the highlight of being in Boyzone?
The whole thing was fantastic – there wasn’t one highlight. We’d had number one albums and singles and amazing tours. Everything we did was incredible. We thought we’d made it when we got our first magazine front cover and it grew from there. As our success grew, we kept getting bigger and had bigger tours, bigger-selling albums, it was continuous.

Do you plan to get back together?
I can’t speak for the rest of the lads but it’s something I’d love to do. If the opportunity comes up in the future then it might be good.

If you reunite, will you get to sing more than you did first time round?
In Boyzone, I was a left-winger, make-up-the-numbers kind of fella and I don’t mind that. You’ve got to understand your role in any job. Lead singers are lead singers and backing vocalists are backing vocalists. I’m not looking to take the mic and do that kind of stuff. I do my own gigs now with my own band. We do traditional Irish music and I’m happy to go and front my own thing in my own time.

How many tattoos have you got?
I can’t tell you a number but I’ve had more than 50 hours under the needle. It’s an art for me. I love the different styles and I’m really into it. I don’t have favourites – they’re all about the emotional journeys I’ve been on.

What was the last thing you bought on eBay?
Nothing. I don’t have a computer. I can’t be arsed. I don’t have time for emails and computer situations. I’m a physical type of guy. Give me a shovel and I’ll dig you an amazing hole. I don’t have time for sitting behind computers and PlayStations and that business.

What do you want to do after reality shows?
I don’t try to plan for the future. I’m successful enough financially not to have to worry. The TV shows get me off the couch and keep me busy mentally and physically and I also drive race cars.

What did you spend the Boyzone money on?
The first thing I bought was a 911 Porsche. I sold it a year ago. I go between buying fast cars and then getting rid of them. I drive a Nissan Navara truck at the moment and a Mercedes ML. I don’t have Porsches or Lamborghinis any more – I do that on the racetrack.
