People sneer at reality TV, but generally it's people who don't watch it. For me it's possibly the reason TV was invented. I've been hooked since before
Nasty Nick, all through the making of Hear'Say, right up to the present. It has much in common with sport. You know the game, you understand the rules but you can't necessarily predict the outcome. Like so many things on these islands it's all about class. Ordinary people get their shot. Some of them (
Leona Lewis) are fantastically talented, some are just nice (
Brian Belo) and other ordinary people vote for them. I think it's inspiringly egalitarian.
Funnily enough I'm not so crazy about the shows which teach 'celebs' to do the valeta or bury them in witchetty grubs. I feel we should take the film out of the camera and creep away leaving them all to it.
