In the first series, 24 young women were subjected to the waxen charms of sometime rugby player Gavin Henson. The mate he picked later pilloried him in print. Undeterred by the fate of his forerunner in amore, a new lothario, Spencer Matthews from E4’s Made in Chelsea, steps up. In a perfect marriage of subject and medium, a child of one TV reality show seeks a partner on another.

Matthews believes his oat-sowing days are over, and wants to find “a loving and meaningful relationship”. Some may think his most loving relationship is with himself. But that would be unkind.


1/10. New series. The reality dating show returns, with 24 single women out to win the heart of an eligible bachelor. Last year they were trying to impress rugby star Gavin Henson - in this second run, they are competing for the love of City broker and PR manager Spencer Matthews, who rose to fame on E4 show Made in Chelsea. There will be plenty of flirting - with Spencer - and cat-fighting - between the ladies - as they do their best to win his attention in various romantic settings across Europe. At the end of the show, the girls he likes are given a red rose - those he does not get a one-way ticket home.
