Post subject:  I dislike Fame Academy & Pop Idol!

I know this is an unpopular thing to say but I don't watch any of these programmes. I dislike them. What worries me about these is what is going on with the many of the teenagers today. Many will worship the contestants of these shows and be in agreement with their parents and even grandparents on whom they like.

I don't know about anyone else here but when I was a teenager I would like groups and singers knowing that my parents would not like them. What’s happened to the teenager rebel? (I don’t agree with youth violence) I suppose my parents being brought up in the 60/70s probably would have thought the same when they were kids. That was what being a teenager all was about.

But also none of these singers whom make it from these programmes will have a long career. The voters will pick the nice boy/girl who smiles a lot, looks good and may have a great voice. However if you look at the singers, groups of the past most have been bad boys/girls, weirdo’s with personality and with loads arrogance, they may not be the greatest singers but they do have that something extra and always write great music. I feel sorry for the kids going through these shows as we all know these kids will only have a short lifespan in the music industry. The ones who stay the longest in business are always those who have the personality and the interest to keep us occupied.

A lot of people may not like Marlyn Manson but he is one of the few people who is causing controversy, USA have got a few, but Callow and his cronies are stopping the British Record companies from producing rebels.

oh well said michelle - is a particular bad point with me we are producing plastic so called pop stars in britain

what has happened to our music industry there has not been a british no 1 in the states for nearly two years they dont want to know our lip syncing rubbish

my nephew has just completed LIPA is the performing arts college that paul mccartney set up in liverpool he was told he would be beating his head against a wall here they just want looks you dont need talent to get a recording contract so he was told by mccartney and his tutor (was in the group the farm) to go to usa so he is in LA but what a terrible condemnation of uk today and yes callow and his cronies are to blame with the main person being Fuller who pulls all the strings

I think there is room for everything if there is the demand? I do watch these programmes but I don't worship them (mind you I'm hardly a teenager ::lol::) My kids watch it for a laugh, none of my kids are into "pop" music. I love The Darkness and other such bands (don't have much choice as the tv is usually on Kerrang! or MTV2) but I can pretty much listen to anything. Maybe it's the wrong attitude but I don't really care that much about FA or PI and what they are producing.

Yeah I aggree Lyns.....people will buy what music they like..I don't see that one or two new 'stars' a year produced from these programmes is going to stop any other talent getting through any less than before these programmes came about.

pi and fa are a minor part of it its just the record labels in uk are looking for looks and image make a few quid and drop em the attitude bands with talent have to struggle to get signed and yet there is more of a future for them - I can see the darkness breaking usa and everywhere there live performances will carry them

but the major buying power is the kids and working with them they dont go on the music at all (I know am generalising)is the looks they go on about my nephews into rock Lyn know what ya mean about kerrang and such but must admit like the music anyway

what i dont get is that these kids think they really are the next big thing ..... dont they realise they are being used to go on tours work all hours so they can generate cash streams for their "creators" ?
I particularly enjoy seeing some of them getting carried away with their own hype and actually believing that they are soooo much better than the other "final 100" ,,,, best example so far was whats-her-face for that group eh .... the one with danny + the welsh guy + the musician chick .... she married whats-his-face off eastenders .... you know who i am talking about .... when she left the "group" to go solo i thought it was the funniest ever .... dont believe the hype! ::lol:: ::lol::

this is another reason why record companies shouldnt be pitied when people go on about music-sharing + pirates etc .... they will always have a market in the kiddies dept .... the kids (well they are not ALL kids , "feeble minded" would be better ) who buy this rubbish will always buy the genuine article for fear of being dis-loyal to their hero .... anyway , as stated above , its not about the music with them.

Does your philosophy only apply to those wanting to be popstars but not those 'having a try' at TV presenting? :-?
