He admitted: “I arrived here with my ego high — and now it is even higher!”
Mourinho, preparing for tonight’s Champions League semi-final, first-leg date with Liverpool, turned up at Stamford Bridge last summer branding himself the ‘Special One’.
But with the Premiership title almost sewn up and the Blues flying high in Europe, Mourinho jokes his personal rating has rocketed.
He added: “I have no idea what I meant when I said I was the Special One. But at the time I had just become a European champion.”
Having won the Champions League with Porto last season, he reckons it has taken foreign leadership to make English football a Euro force again.
Mourinho claimed: “English football needs to adapt to Europe in certain aspects. English managers are very good. But maybe the mentality of me and Rafa Benitez to play in a more tactical way gives us a little bit of an advantage.”
