Although I've been a Liverpool fan since 1977 my interest in top-flight footie has waned in recent years. When a Premiership players wages for a week can support the entire wage bill of my local side for an entire year and even with Championship clubs going into administration there is something seriously wrong in football.
To me Chelsea sum up everything that is wrong with football these days and that in itself was a good enough reason to see them lose. It's all about how much money you have to spend, the fans are forgotten, seen merely as consumers and fodder for marketing men. As much as I hate Man U at least they used largely home-grown talent (but then I don't agree with academies as that takes something away from lower-league clubs). I'm just a miserable b*stard i suppose

. But if I had my way at least 20% of a Premiership player's wages would go towards helping smaller clubs survive. A club like ours gets an average gate of 350 but we still have to maintain adequate facilities and safety standards for a crowd of 4000 (our maximum).
for the record, Liverpool last won the European Cup in 1984 - on penalties (was it 4-2?) against Roma, in their own ground I think. Alan Kennedy - an unlikely hero!
