Personally I would still have picked him. Just watching a news conference on SSN now with McClaren, Venables & Terry, the new captain.
Happy with that decision personally, but would have been happy with Gerrard too, not much to pick between them.

Beckham can still do a job now, but give it 2 years to the time of the next Championships, then I doubt he would be up to it at 33. McClaren (who I'd like not to be given the chance to screw England) has done something sensible in planning for those Championships. Let's face it, we'd qualify even if they were forced to play me throughout the qualifying games, so it does make sense.

Don't think the FA will be too chuffed tho. Beckham is the cornerstone of 99% of their marketing. They'll have to go with Peter Crouch instead now.
