Right, despite the best efforts of my dad, a former cricketist, I have hardly any idea about what goes on in cricket. For a start, it's really difficult to pick the teams out coz they wear the same colours, but anyway, my point is this. This evidence of this 'ere so-called ball tampering... has anyone actually got evidence of it, or is it just the empire's decision?

So, why don't they change the ball, say every 6 or 12 overs, or, when the batsman/umpire requests it but only after a minimum of 6 or 12 overs? Surely there must be more than one ball in any game of cricket. Anyway, it's not like they were playing for real, it was only a test.

It does appear that this was a massive **** up by the umpire. He looked at the ball and felt that it was in an unfit state. But he hasn't seen anything at all to suggest that the ball had been put into that state artificially. The 5 run penalty was meaningless in the grand state of things, but the accusation of cheating was without any real substance to back it up. I don't blame Pakistan at all for their reaction, and its been backed by many leading lights in the game such as Nasser Hussein, Ian Botham and Dickie Bird.

Afridi is still a cheat however for his twisting action on the wicket last year, and will carry that tag around with him until retirement.

well, I reckon hitting it with that wooden bat thing can't help and they shouldn't throw it as hard.

seriously, I think an accusation without foundation doesn't help anyone. There are rumours that Duncan Fletcher saw something through his bins and visited the umpire. The umpire should've just demanded a ball change, having assessed its quality, and thereby could have avoided any embarrassing misunderstandings. Now there are accusations flying around, people's reputations at stake, and worst of all, there are thousands of fans without a game of cricket to watch.

How bad are we at one day cricket, another defeat, in a game we should easily have won.
