Leading figures in Scottish sport have expressed delight after Glasgow was chosen to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Glasgow saw off the challenge of Nigerian capital Abuja, by 47 votes to 24 following a vote in Sri Lanka.
Scottish Rugby chief executive Gordon McKie said the potential benefits of hosting the event were "huge".
Former track athlete Yvonne Murray, who won gold in the 10,000 metres at the 1994 Games, said: "It's fantastic."
It has been estimated that it will cost the city £288m to stage the sporting event, with most of the funding coming from the Scottish Government.
