Wimbledon 2009
BBC2 Monday 22 June 12:00pm - 3:25pm

Here it comes, the most blazingly British of sports events, ready to turn us all into two-week tennis fans. And this year, the not-always-blazing British weather will be less able to ruin things as Centre Court's new roof swings into action for the first time. That should mean less time watching officials gazing at the heavens and more watching white-clad players against a sea of summery green. Let's hope it doesn't change the pace in other ways: lawn tennis - now limited to a handful of tournaments - has a cut-and-thrust all its own, even if the All England Club's turf isn't quite the hard, serve-and-volley paradise it used to be. Those viewers who have the luxury of watching through the day will have the best of it - a fortnight of being able to dip in and out of matches at will. For the rest of us, nightly highlights will do the job, with Sue Barker, Tim Henman, John McEnroe and Boris Becker steering us through the action.
