GOLDEN GIRL! Britain's Lizzy Yarnold takes GOLD in CRAZY 90mph Winter Olympic skeleton
BRITAIN’S dazzling new golden girl Lizzy Yarnold fulfilled the dream of a lifetime today by winning the country’s first gold medal in the Sochi Winter Olympics.
She won the death-defying skeleton competition on a sled named Mervyn, hurtling down the ice on at speeds of 90mph on what fans joke is a “little more than a tray”.
The Team GB victory at the Sanki Sliding Centre repeats the feat of her friend and landlady Amy Williams in Vancouver four years ago.
Cheered on by her “Yarny Army” band of fans, Lizzy, 25, from Sevenoaks in Kent, continued the form of her life to take the gold just weeks after she won the World Cup last month.
Her cousin Tom Larner said: “She has put her whole life on hold to follow her dream of becoming Olympic champion.
“We are all really proud of her.”
